New York, NY — November 3, 2014 — Inside Edition’s Victoria Recano talks with Lamar Sally, ex-husband of former co-host of “The View,” Sherri Shepherd, who is speaking out about the child he says his ex-wife abandoned.

Sally tells Inside Edition that Shepherd, who is now 47 and has a son from a previous marriage, told Sally she wanted another baby but couldn’t get pregnant. He says they paid a surrogate $100,000 to carry the baby. A donor egg was used.

RECANO: “She helped you select the surrogate?”

SALLY: “Yes, she met her a couple of times. We even used a facial recognition program so we could pick a person who looked sort of like Sherri.”

But six months into the pregnancy, Sally says Shepherd told him she wanted a divorce and no longer wanted to be the mother of the unborn child.

SALLY: “She offered me a settlement of $150,000, but it was not to have her name on the birth certificate.”

A letter from Shepherd’s lawyer states she has no relationship with the infant, Lamar Jr., and the baby is not a covered dependent on Shepherd’s health insurance plan.

Sally tells Inside Edition that Lamar Jr. was born with a rare genetic disorder called G6PD Deficiency, which affects red blood cells. He says he needs that health insurance to help care for the three-month-old.

The 44-year-old former sitcom writer is now a single dad taking care of his son full-time. But Sally denies that he’s a gold digger.

SALLY: “There’s no amount of money to ease my worry about my son. If she would just do the right thing and we co-parent. That’s all I want.”

Inside Edition contacted Sherri Shepherd’s team and were told that Shepherd would not be responding with a statement.
