New York, NY - Feb. 9, 2010 - INSIDE EDITION's Matt Meagher checked into some hotels that the popular travel website Tripadvisor.com deemed the dirtiest in America based on traveler reviews.  You may be shocked at what he found.

The Heritage Marina Hotel in San Francisco is rated by Tripadviser.com as the #1 Dirtiest Hotel in America.  The reviews say, "Disgusting, filthy, cockroach infested," "horror hotel," "had the ambience of fresh vomit." 

But none of that prepared INSIDE EDITION's Matt Meagher for what he found when he opened the door of the room he rented...there was someone sleeping in his bed. 

When Meagher tried to ask the person how he got in the room, the man became indignant. 

Meagher then went downstairs to speak with a supervisor, who responded, "I don't know what to say, sir.  We have the housekeepers...they usually clean the room and stuff."  

Matt Meagher: "How can you explain that?  Could anybody feel safe staying here?"

Supervisor: "That's why we're trying our best to do that - to address all the issues."

Matt Meagher: "You're trying to clean it up?"

Supervisor: "Yes."

At the Parisian Hotel and Suites in sunny Miami Beach, in the room we checked into we found peeling paint, dried stains on the blanket and strange red debris under the mattress.  But the owner told INSIDE EDITION they've only had a few complaints and felt strongly that they should not be on the Tripadvisor list.

The New York Inn sits in the heart of New York City's Times Square.  But Tripadvisor travelers have called it "appalling" and "like something out of a horror film."  The owner's say they're making improvements and the room we had did have a brand new TV, but it was downhill from there.  In our room we found ugly stains on the mattress, a disgusting shower, leftover garbage, and rodent traps hidden under furniture.

Tripadvisor.com recommends that travelers go online and do research, so they don't encounter any surprises when they get to their hotel.
