New York, NY – February 16, 2022 – Sara Morales, a 35-year-old pregnant librarian and mother of an 11-year-old, was killed in a road rage incident after police say she intentionally bumped into a biker with her car. In an exclusive airing on Wednesday, INSIDE EDITION speaks with her mother, Doreen Morales, who is speaking out for the first time since the death of her daughter.  

The entire ordeal played out in a series of 9-1-1 calls. The biker told 9-1-1 Morales hit him with her car and fled. She separately told an operator the bikers followed her to her home outside Orlando, FL.  

Doreen Morales remembers her daughter running inside the house and grabbing a gun. 

“She’s yelling at them to go away and leave her alone,” Doreen Morales tells INSIDE EDITION. 

When she came back outside, the bikers say Morales pointed her gun at them. Then, one of the bikers opened fire. Morales was hit three times in the stomach and chest. 

Inside the house, her 11-year-old daughter Gianna was also on with 9-1-1. Gunshots could be heard on the call.  

“She was standing up for what she believed and that’s what got her in trouble,” says Doreen Morales. “She should have stayed in the house.” 

Her mother also says there was nothing anyone could do, Morales lost too much blood.  She showed INSIDE EDITION the lawn where she was shot, “This is where she went down, right here.” 

When police arrived, they put the biker in handcuffs. He claimed he shot the pregnant librarian in self-defense and was released at the scene. He had a legal permit to carry a concealed weapon and has not been charged. 

Doreen Morales says that’s a tough pill to swallow. 

“That just breaks my heart because he took more than my daughter, he took my granddaughter’s mother. It doesn’t make much sense to me,” Doreen Morales tells INSIDE EDITION.
