New York, NY – February 8, 2022 – In an exclusive airing on Tuesday, Raffaela Spone, the mother who was wrongfully accused of creating deep fake videos of her daughter’s cheerleading rivals is speaking out for the first time to INSIDE EDITION.
Spone’s daughter Allie was a cheerleader on the Victory Vipers – one of the most competitive teams in Pennsylvania. Last year, several parents received videos and anonymous texts complaining about their daughters’ behavior on social media, showing things like the girls vaping.
Prosecutors called it a deep fake. Spone’s arrest last March in connection with the videos made headlines.
“I worked my whole life to get where I am, and it was all taken away from me in a heartbeat,” she tells INSIDE EDITION.
The charge has now been dropped. Prosecutors now say they are unable to determine if she faked any videos. Spone is still facing harassment charges over texts she allegedly sent parents complaining about their daughters’ behavior – which she also denies.
She says her entire life has been impacted by the accusations.
“It's impacted my life in so many ways from losing jobs, friends, family. It's basically a complete living nightmare that you just can't get out of,” she tells INSIDE EDITION.
The girl in one of the videos, Madi Hime, told INSIDE EDITION last March the video was faked. “I was shocked surprised and scared. I didn't know who would be able to mimic a video like that because it looked really real,” she said.
INSIDE EDITION showed the video to a deep fake expert. The expert told INSIDE EDITION, “Because this video is actually a video of another video being displayed on a screen it's not really possible for us to reach any conclusive decisions.”
Spone’s daughter Allie says the hardest part of this saga has been seeing her mom suffer. She tells INSIDE EDITION, “It breaks my heart because she's the person I care about the most and to see her change makes me upset.”
