New York, NY — April 24, 2019 – In February, a Marshfield, Wis. man, Robert Wild, dumped a litter of day-old puppies in a garbage bin outside his home in 17-degree weather. INSIDE EDITION obtained exclusive footage of the puppies being rescued from a trash bag filled with garbage.

Marshfield police officer Bob Larsen told INSIDE EDITION what went through his mind when he found the eight crying puppies in the garbage. “I kept thinking, ‘How could anybody do this? This is absolutely insane!’” he said. “I have no doubt that these puppies would have died.”

Wild was arrested and charged with intentionally mistreating animals. He has pleaded not guilty. Now, in an INSIDE EDITION investigation airing on Wednesday, Lisa Guerrero found Wild selling a litter of puppies.

Posing as interested puppy buyers, Wild agreed to meet Guerrero and an INSIDE EDITION producer in a parking lot. He arrived carrying a basketful of puppies. Wild told Guerrero that the dogs were 4-weeks old, and when she asked if he is breeding them, he said, “No, it was an accident.”

Wild was stunned when Guerrero then told him that she is really reporting undercover with INSIDE EDITION. When she asked him why he threw the puppies in the garbage to die, he said, “I didn’t think they were going to die because in the back of my mind, I knew I was going to go back and get them out of there.”

He added, “I did something really stupid for a moment. Do I regret it? Yes, I do.”

Guerrero then asked, “Some people say you shouldn’t have any animals right now. What’s your response to that?”

Wild replied, “I don’t agree with that. I love my dogs more than anything.”

He then took the puppies and drove off.

All eight of the abandoned puppies miraculously survived thanks to the help of Karen Rau and her team at The Marshfield Area Pet Shelter. The puppies will be up for adoption soon. Over a hundred applications have been submitted so far.

Rau tells INSIDE EDITION that it was difficult comprehending how someone could abandon the innocent animals. “We look at them as little miracles,” she says. “I was shocked that this could happen in our own community.”

Being from Wisconsin, the puppies have all been named after different types of cheese – Feta, Swiss, Bleu, Muenster, Brie, Gouda, Cheddar and Colby.
