New York, NY — April 25, 2017 – In an exclusive airing on Tuesday, INSIDE EDITION’s Jim Moret speaks with Scott Baio, who explains the remarks he made about the death of Erin Moran.

The “Happy Days” star believed his former co-star Moran died from a heroin overdose when he told a Los Angeles radio show, “If you do drugs or drink, you’re going to die. I’m sorry if that’s cold, but God gave you a brain.” When it turned out that Moran actually died from throat cancer, Baio was savaged on social media.

Baio’s eyes fill with tears as he tells INSIDE EDITION why he was so emotional about Moran’s reported struggles with drug use.

“When I heard that it was heroin I got so angry because I don’t want that happening to my kid. And there’s where that came from,” Baio says. “I’m tired of this. I’m tired of hearing about drugs and death. I’ve had it. That’s when it hit me hard.”

He tells INSIDE EDITION, “I jumped the gun, okay? I should have known better, but I went with the information that I had.”

He also adds that he believes the backlash he’s receiving on social media stems from his public support of Donald Trump. “If I was a liberal Hollywood person I would have gotten a complete pass,” he says. “Because I’m a conservative and a pro-Trump guy they don’t let anything slide with me. Nothing.”

Addressing the social media criticism against him, he adds, “I should die instead of her? I jumped the gun, okay? Am I a horrible human being?”
