New York, NY — October 26, 2016 – In a report airing on Wednesday, INSIDE EDITION is taking its great hotel sheets test around the country, including to the new Trump hotel in Washington D.C.
Donald Trump took time out from the campaign trail today to be at the grand opening with his entire family, “This is the most coveted piece of real estate in Washington, D.C., the best location.”
INSIDE EDITION figured the luxurious rooms at the Trump International Hotel in D.C. would surely pass the test, so we booked a deluxe room at a cost of $900 a night. Then using a harmless, washable fluorescent paint only visible under the ultraviolet light, INSIDE EDITION sprayed a message and logo on sheets, pillows and a bathrobe.
INSIDE EDITION checked out of the hotel leaving the bed looking like it had been slept in and the used bathrobe flung over a chair. The next day we checked into the same room under a different name and turned on a powerful UV light to check the items. We found the sheets and pillows were clean – no sign of INSIDE EDITION’s secret marking.
But the bathrobe was a different story. The INSIDE EDITION logo, which had been painted inside the robe shined brightly under their UV light. It had NOT been changed or cleaned.
INSIDE EDITION reached out to Trump International Hotel but has not received a response.
After discovering unsuspecting travelers were paying top dollar for rooms with dirty sheets in New York City last month, INSIDE EDITION wanted to see how widespread this problem could be – so we traveled across the country to test top name hotels in other cities.
At a Ramada in Boston, INSIDE EDITION found the sheets were clean but the INSIDE EDITION logo was still on a pillowcase the following day. Even though it looked clean to the naked eye, a guest would have been sleeping on a dirty pillowcase.
In response to the findings, the manager said, “[I] really don’t have anything to say in regards to this…I’m going to have to end this conversation, but I appreciate it.”
At a Hyatt Regency overlooking Boston Harbor, INSIDE EDITION also discovered the pillowcase had not been changed.
“This is not our standards,” said the manager. “We have to check with the housekeeping manager and see what happened here.”
At a Sheraton at Los Angeles International Airport, INSIDE EDITION discovered more bad news – another dirty pillowcase. When informed, the manager said, “It’s supposed to be completely, one hundred percent changed when it’s a brand new guest.”
And when INSIDE EDITION tested a room at a Comfort Inn, also near LAX, we once again found a dirty pillowcase had not been changed. The manager later apologized and thanked INSIDE EDITION for pointing out the issue.
Spokespeople from the Ramada, Hyatt, Sheraton and Comfort Inn corporations all told INSIDE EDITION they were disappointed by what we found and have taken appropriate steps to make certain this doesn’t happen again, assuring us that it is policy for all linens to be changed between guests.
