WANDA SYKES SPEAKS OUT ABOUT THE CONTROVERSIAL JOKES SHE MADE AT THE WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS DINNER

To Be Broadcast: Monday, May 18, 2009

New York, NY - May 18, 2009 - INSIDE EDITION speaks with Wanda Sykes, who is speaking out for the first time about the controversial jokes made at the White House Correspondents Dinner.

INSIDE EDITION caught up with the comedian, who was promoting The Wanda Sykes Show, which debuts this fall on Fox.

Sykes tells INSIDE EDITION that her jokes should not be taken seriously.

Sykes: "Comedian...anything that comes out of here [points to her mouth], can't take it seriously."

Many said Sykes crossed the line when she compared conservative radio personality Rush Limbaugh to a 9/11 terrorist.  Sykes tells INSIDE EDITION that it was not a 9/11 joke.

Sykes: "Here's the problem with people who aren't comedians, [who] deconstruct comedy.  It wasn't a 9/11 joke.  Of course, 9/11 isn't funny, but it wasn't a 9/11 joke."
