INSIDE EDITION SPEAKS WITH DOG WHISPERER CESAR MILAN ABOUT THE FIRST DOG, BO AND WARNS BEWARE OF DOG

To Be Broadcast: Wednesday, April 15, 2009

New York, NY - April 15, 2009 - INSIDE EDITION speaks with Dog Whisperer Cesar Milan, who gives advice to the Obama family on their new Portuguese water dog, Bo.

Milan warns the White House of another Portuguese water dog that would chase people and bite them.

Milan: "This dog was bored...Every breed of dog has the potential to bite, but if you fulfill the needs, they're going to be in that loving state.  I think it's a great breed...To me, it's not so much the breed...It's about fulfilling the needs of a dog.  He doesn't know he lives in the White House, he doesn't know he lives with the Obamas, he just knows that he lives with somebody who is learning to be a pack leader."

Milan tells INSIDE EDITION that those working closely with the Obama girls will also have to help Bo adjust to his new family.

Milan: "I think everybody has to participate because the dog doesn't understand this is the Secret Service, this is the FBI, this is my grandmother."

In addition to exercise, Milan tells INSIDE EDITION these are the rules the Obama girls should follow when handling Bo.

Milan:  "Tell people please follow these rules: no touch, no talk, no eye contact.  ‘Let my dog come to you' because when people go to a dog...the energy, the excitement can lead into a dog controlling the situation."

Milan tells INSIDE EDITION about potential signs that Bo might not be getting proper understanding and exercise.

Milan: "A sign that Bo is not getting enough proper understanding and exercise is if he starts acting out in different ways like digging holes, excessive barking, jumping on people, grabbing things and taking things away.  Those are the most common ones but that happens to every breed, it's not just Portuguese water dogs.

And, for all dog owners, particularly those in the city, Milan tells INSIDE EDITION that dogs need more exercise than just a dog park.

Milan: "A dog park is not so much exercise.  It's more like the Chuck E. Cheese."
