CBS NEWS CHIEF INVESTIGATIVE CORRESPONDENT ARMEN KETEYIAN EXAMINES THE RISE IN AUTO INSURANCE FRAUD

The Report Will Be Broadcast Tonight on the “CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY”

CBS News Chief Investigative Correspondent Armen Keteyian examines the rise in auto insurance fraud as a result of staged auto accidents. The report will be broadcast tonight, January 26, on the “CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY” (6:30 PM, ET), on the CBS Television Network.

Keteyian reports that new estimates from the National Insurance Crime Bureau show that cases in which people falsely claim auto accident injuries has increased. In addition, he found that large payouts from “no-fault” insurance laws have prompted massive fraud.

Keteyian traveled to Tampa, Fla., to interview the director of the National Insurance Crime Bureau, a not-for-profit agency funded by the insurance industry to investigate fraud. Keteyian also interviews a former scammer who explains how he made thousands of dollars faking car accidents, and then help owners of bogus medical clinics swindle insurance companies.

Patricia Shevlin is the executive producer of the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY.
