CBS News National Correspondent Chip Reid reports on a former Marine who captures the lives of wounded soldiers through art. The report will be broadcast tonight, May 3, on the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY (6:30-7:00 PM, ET) on the CBS Television Network.
In tonight’s report, Reid speaks with Michael Fay, a former Marine Corps artist who served in both Iraq and Afghanistan. For the past 15 months, Fay has traveled across the country with a pencil and sketchpad drawing wounded soldiers. His work, which features sketches of the soliders and details of how they were injured, is on display in museums across America.
An excerpt of tonight's interview is below.
REID: “What are you trying to accomplish by sketching these injured service members?”
FAY: “To get their stories into the culture, into history, so it doesn't get lost.”
