Drew: The longevity of ‘Rosanne,’ now there’s a family we all grew up with….How do you explain the longevity and success of 'The Conners' being such a part of the American fabric if you will?

Sara: I think a lot of it is attributable to luck…part of it is the writing staff is incredible…another piece, I suppose, is just that there aren’t a lot of stories on television about working class families trying to break the cycle of poverty, trying to get ahead. I think we are trying to get into the nitty gritty of what is it like to try to be surviving andgettingahead in this country and not quite being able to do it.

Drew or False: Sara Gilbert Reveals Her First Girl Kiss was with Drew

https://drewbarrymoreshow.cimediacloud.com/r/7216cG6PkilK

Drew: Let’s see the facts again…Okay Sara which one is true?

Sara:The true one is C. My first girl kiss was with Drew. And now I’m not one to kiss and tell but I have to say, look now I’m like going to blush, Drew was the coolest person I ever met and yeah that’s what happened.

Drew: Well we were supposed to kiss in the movie and then we started practicing in the trailer which was kind of fun.

Sara:We had to practice, we were doing research.

Drew: Exactly. We were like, ‘Oh I guess we should practice because we wanted it to look good on screen.' We had so much fun. I remember, I feel like it was in the parking lot in Los Feliz, right? I feel like we had that little basecamp. I drove that jeep and I used to go get like ice cream on lunch breaks and I was constantly getting into accidents. I think I got my license taken away on that movie.

Sara:I remember you dancing on the hood of the jeep. Yeah, you were a wild child in the best possible way. I was impressed, still am.

Drew & Ben on Parenting During Covid & “Superstore” Coming to an End

Ben: How’s it being a mom in Covid?...Are you going insane? We have two toddlers here and we are going insane.

Drew: Yeah, I cried all the way to work today. Like so hard that it I couldn’t catch my breath and I just figured let me get it out here in the car, and then I thought I could nip it in the bud before I got to work but no it went into the first hour of getting ready but I will say, and I hope this is true for anyone who is kind enough to visit us here while we are doing this, this show fixes things, it makes me feel better when I’m here. And then I go home and cry again.

Ben: You save the crying and freak out for when you are home with the kids, here is the safe space.

Drew: I wonder if it’s like this for you too with this show that you’ve built for six years and is coming to a finale….is it like that for you on the set because there is so much chemistry on the show.

Ben:…Look one thing you and I have in common with our current jobsis thatwe are not really allowed to be in a terrible mood at work. We have to be in a kind of great mood to do what we do for a living. I think that serves us really well. We are a comedy so imagine if you walked into a room every day with the seven funniest people you knew and you were the least funny person there and it didn’t matter. That’s kind of been what my life has been like for six years. So you can’t be sad, you can’t be in a bad mood.
