Ali Larter on Fighting For Her Role on “Landman" and Working with Billy Bob Thornton
https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/HIC38iZy8fAZ
Ali: This show, it came at a time when I didn’t know what I was gonna do next. And I read this script and I fought for this role and I gave everything that I had, with the pressure, with the mental game you have to play to get the role and then going into it. A lot of it was doing the animal work, the wardrobe, the dialect and then I have with Billy Bob Thornton an extraordinary co-star.
Drew: And you have the best chemistry. It’s really important for this show and a really big reason for why it’s working because you want these people, you like them. They are a great couple there’s a great dynamic going on between the two of them.
Ali: So on the page, we had all ten episodes the first season and on the page what was written was a very caustic relationship, there wasn’t as much love and heart. And when Billy and I met we talked about how, especially with a tv show, this could go on we don’t know but he does not have an inauthentic beat. He was like relationships are messy let’s find all the things between us that we can put into this work and he didn’t rehearse. So when I show up on set with him we’re just living and he has raised my game and it’s just like every moment you don’t know, as we don’t know in human life, if something’s going to make you cry or laugh or you’re just blasé and we just find it and it’s real, like we’re exchanging energy.
Ali Brings Her Daughter & Goddaughter to Meet Drew
https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/fGAG240jNTxU
Drew: You have a wonderful family.
Ali: I do. My daughter's here and my goddaughter's here. They're somewhere out there in the audience. I don't know where they are.
Drew: Hi girls, this is where my daughters sit. I'm Drew. Oh this makes me so happy because literally this is when my girls come to visit and hang out. This is exactly where they sit if they're not already putting on a headset and working on the show. What's your favorite song currently out of curiosity what's on like rotation?
Ali’s Daughter: I love the Taylor Swift's new album.
Drew: Me too. I can't stop listening to it. What do you have on rotation, may I ask? I love the album so much. In fact, I have the album in my closet leaning next to a picture of me and my two daughters. I'm such a swiftie.
Ali on Her Husband Being a Light For Her
https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/XpVGNpN7dvnZ
Drew: So how did you guys meet, you and your husband, may I ask?
Ali: Yeah, so we were actually, I was living in New York City and I'd been here for about 3.5, 4 years, and I was leaving a very toxic relationship. And I went and did a movie that, you know, they were like, ‘Just go laugh.' I hadn't laughed in a very long time. And I met him. And he was just light, you know, he's so funny and he's an amazing father and you know we just, we keep doing it, we keep growing together, you know, and I never sit here and say that it's easy because I think any long-term relationship, you know, is so hard at times, but we love our family and we learn from each other every day and I'm grateful for that.
Ali on Being in Meditation or Prayer 15 Time a Day to Help Ground Her
https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/TR3gtBDo6s2Z
Drew: I ask the universe every Christmas, for a message, and this year it was telling me to please breathe so that I can get back to center, and that that's what's gonna help me this year in any situation. Is there anything advice like whether it's with I have an 11 year old, just, you know, we're the same, same boat and a 13-year-old woo, and what is, you know, what is an equivalent to you like people say take a deep breath, but it's not always available and I don't remember it all the time.
Ali: I just, I kind of believe in the work. Like I would say I'm, I'm in meditation or prayer like 15 times a day because I feel the pressures. Like I'm high anxiety, nervous, we have high pressure jobs, we're trying to be the best mom. Everything in the family, it's just a lot. Life is a lot for a lot of people and so to be able to make it through, I have just some methods where I work and I pray and I think about my children and I ground myself and I breathe and I just, it truly changes my energy and I'm ready to come back out again. I can do it in 5 minutes, you know, like you do it in the car, you do it when you're waiting in traffic, and it's changed my life. And it's like we're old enough to know the peaks and valleys. Like when you are in a valley, a peak will come again. And like that is the beauty for me of getting older is having that faith and trust. We do that so we can make it through, you know, it's like that's, that's what I love about aging.
Ali on Her Dress at the Critics Choice Awards Going Viral
https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/yGnQGWPEKB5s
Drew: You had a big moment recently where you went to the Critics Choice Awards and you wore this dress and no one will shut up about it. I mean literally so simple.
Ali: I thought I was getting a little boring.
Drew: I mean, I think you turned the LBD upside down.
Ali: That's my style, that's like the late 90s, early 2000s Calvin Klein vibe.
Drew: Does it feel good to feel so seen and appreciated for what you're doing right now because I think there are many jobs that come and go and they fly under the radar I for myself have experienced that, and this one's really loud and it's, and it's, and it's, it's just so great.
Ali: I feel like, you know, when we got the SAG nomination, it was a huge deal because when you're seen by your peers, that's the highest level of respect for me.
Ali on the Most Texas Thing She’s Experienced While Filming “Landman”
https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/WPmf6pjBzuVO
Demi Moore: Hey Ali, so the question is, what's the most Texas thing that's happened to you since we started filming?
Ali: Oh, I would say that at our dog park there is a full open bar and so down the street, I bring my dog with me, and you walk down and it's just like a full open bar and people are having margaritas and buckets of beer and hanging out and I was like that is Texas. You know, you go to the hair salon, get your nails done, full bar. Like the place is just a wild town. Like you drive 90 MPH on the freeway. It's like a rebellious state.
Drew: And the best skies I've ever seen in the globe.
