Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan and Carrie Underwood on Hearing Their Own Songs During “American Idol” Auditions
https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/QfY4vDWOlqZa
Drew: What does it feel like? Like someone came out and sang ‘Easy’ and you're like, ‘Oh my God, I'm watching my own existence being reflected back.’
Lionel: It scares me to death and for two reasons. One, I want them to kill it. I mean when I say kill it, I mean make it the best. But at the same time we know that most of the times when they come out and sing our songs it's gonna not because they wanna sing it like Luke, like Carrie, and we're sitting there going, ‘Oh my God, it's gonna be embarrassing.’ Well, sometimes they nail it.
And when I say that it's to the point where you just wanna go, oh my God, we have a couple of situations on this, on this new episode that's just.
Drew: I like when someone literally makes me feel like I should quit my job, you know, like you're so good. I can't, I'm not, I'm not gonna bother. Have you ever heard someone sing one of your songs, Luke, in a way that was either spot on or totally randomly different?
Luke: Well, just, when we were in filming our shows in Hawaii. We had a, a guy…but, this particular kid was an R&B singer and, and maybe gospel too. We had never, we had never, well, he comes out and does one of my songs and like has a cowboy hat on, has dance moves and totally like charmed everybody with it. And, that's how you want that moment to go when they really come out to be really copying you and all that, it, it can get a little bit, what, squeamish maybe.
Carrie: I was worried when I saw that on the paper, like that's what he was gonna be singing, and then he comes out and he totally just makes it his own.
Luke: He makes it his own, which the fact that they're able to be that smart in the moment and create a moment is really what, making it through ‘American Idol’ and all of the things that we throw at these kids, they have to be. They got to be ready to move on the fly and do this kind of music one minute and then, so it's, we put them through the gauntlet.
Lionel, Luke and Carrie on Vegas Residencies

Drew: You've been doing your Vegas residency, what's that like?
Carrie: I mean, we've all been there. I feel like it's, you want to put on a show for sure.
It's Vegas. People come and they expect to see a show, so you kind of maybe get to play a little more.
Drew: I love it. I play, I eat. It's fun. It's celebratory. It's a place that you land and you feel like hedonism is welcomed here and I like those places.
Carrie: Food all the drinks, all the shows.
Lionel: No, you know what it is about Vegas and I'll tell you, we get so used to the crowd. How does the crowd sound? That's the crowd. Vegas, they're right there. They're right there.
So we get to tell jokes. We get to be in the moment, really in the moment, and you know it's just I love it because I get feedback.
Drew: It's instant feedback.
Luke: And what was interesting for me is I did my first Vegas residency and then I'm like, oh, Adele is just down the street. Wait, am I competing against Adele? Wait Gaga is here Friday night. I'm here Friday night. I'm competing against Gaga, Adele. Lionel's down the road too.
Lionel: It's something to get used to.
Luke on Why He Got a Tattoo in the Same Spot as His Wife
https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/fbkctutsY4iO
Drew: By the way, is it true you might have a tattoo on?
Luke: So my wife started this, by the way. She started the tattoo thing. She did an LB on her booty cheek. She had just was sure that I would never reciprocate. And one day out on the road, I said, let's find a parlor and went and pulled the old ham out and got her, got her initials on my booty cheek. CB CB.
Memory Bank: Carrie on Winning Her First Grammy and Luke on Winning ACM Best New Artist
https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/TuEKyplo9soC
Drew: OK, Carrie. So that is you winning your very first Grammy.
Carrie: Yeah, that was, it was a crazy night. I was still just so new to everything and getting to go to the Grammys was just incredible and just see just see all the stars, but I, that was my, I was, I was up for, Best New Artist, which was a special one because it's like you can only win that once, you know, you can have rest of your career to win other things.
Drew: Luke.
Luke: I'm scared.
Drew: So I believe that was after you won an award as well.
Luke: Yeah, it was, ACM Best New Artist for the ACM Awards. And so that's Charles Kelly of, Lady A. And then that's the president of our record label, Mike Dungan and It's a big deal and we stole those bathrobes from the MGM and we jumped in the pool and it was just a great night. Charles, was a songwriter on one of my, on my very first number one. So Charles and I had a great connection through that song because that song was a big reason that kind of put me on the map to win the to win that award. And so we had a just a great night, but the funny thing is I still wear that bathrobe every morning of my life when I'm home.
