Harris Dickinson on Working with Nicole Kidman on “Babygirl”

Drew: This film is very sexy. I was shy watching it. There's a lot of behavior in this film, aside from just the engagement of physicality. There is so much of like this tennis match that goes on. So of course being a middle aged woman, I was like I wanna look at the behavior of these two people, not just the sex, because I've learned a lot about relationships and I'm like, what is it about them that enjoys the sort of toxicity and hotness of the cat and mouse dominating, I want to be dominated. I'm gonna tell you I need to leave, but I'm gonna keep you in my locked car. I'm gonna say I can't do that, but you know I'm, and at one point you even say like you know you're gonna do it. I was like, oh good, he just said what was in my mind.

Harris: But you're gonna do it anyway, yeah, exactly.

Drew: And what is it about their relationship that they know what they're both doing, but they play the part anyway?

Harris: Well, I think it's like from, from the moment the like game is set between them with the, I mean you just played the clip like the cookie clip. When he says, yeah, you want one? It's like he's testing her, he comes into her very like stiff, high powered CEO, very, everyone's revering her, you know, and he kind of sees that and watches it, and he's like, I'm not gonna do that.

I'm gonna do the opposite. I'm gonna offer a cookie, I'm gonna almost disrespect her a little bit in a way.

Drew: And gas light her a little bit, play mind games.

Harris: For an intern to do that as well to the to the boss, it's like, and that was hard to do as well, like for me to have to come in and do that to Nicole Kidman and I was like, well how do I do this, you know, like even there's a, there's a line in it where I say like I'm in the car with her and I say, you know, I'm not interested in that, you look like a mother and I said to Halina, our director, I was like, I can't say that. That's really, that's like, that's a little bit rude, isn't it?

Drew: Well, you're literally saying to her like I wouldn't be into you.

Harris: Yeah, but because he's hurt, he gets, you know, he gets hurt and then he throws something back.

Harris on Drama in His Personal Dating Life

https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/mZLFYrVtTLYY

Drew: How do you feel in your personal life about like a drama filled relationship? Are you looking for something more peaceful and sane or are you still in the like, I don't mind the drama phase.

Harris: I mean, I think it's obviously healthier to have a, a dramaless relationship, as we know, but like, I don't know, sometimes we crave it, don't we, sometimes we need a little bit of like conflict. It can't be too easy all the time, but definitely don't need drama in my life, just a little bit.

Harris on Being Too Shy To Meet Nicole Kidman & Denzel Washington’s Advice to Him That Stuck

https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/OdRFHzDD6E0y

Drew: I do get afraid to approach people in public.

Harris: Really?

Drew: And I heard that you had seen Nicole Kidman like across the room, maybe even knew you were going to work with her and had a little bit of the same feeling. Am I alone here?

Harris: No, no, no, not at all.

Drew: Does this happen to you.

Harris: Yeah, it always happens to me. I always see people that I really admire and I'm like. I should talk to them, but I don't, I'm scared to. When I was younger, I went to this event and I was there, it was like one of the first like events I went to in this world and I was a bit nervous, industry thing, it was like some sort of awards thing and there was a small party afterwards and I was stood in the corner with like champagne. I'd probably drunk like several of them to try and like combat my nerves and Denzel Washington walked in and walked straight to me and was like, hey, lighten up man. And I, I feel like since then I've just been like, OK, lighten up, lighten up, lighten up. You know, like every time I'm in that scenario, but with, with Nicole, I, knew that we were gonna work together.

Drew: So you know that you're working together and you still have that kind of, I don't know how else to call it, like intimidation, overthinking it maybe, yeah, so did you go across the room?

Harris: I did, I did because I felt like I would have kicked myself if I didn't considering we were about to start something together, but I got someone else to introduce us. I was, I was talking to Margaret Qualley, who I know a little bit. Yeah, so she introduced us, which was a little bit easier because there was like a connect.
