Kelly Reilly on Working with a Dialect Coach to Create Her Beth Dutton Accent
https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/pJsnFhMi5cQ5
Drew: I would have never guessed you had an accent.
Kelly: Well, that's thanks to my dialect coach. Because she's amazing. Jessica Drake. We were really going for a Montana accent. But she's educated. She's from a very, very wealthy, you know, ranching family. I wasn't gonna go, like, you know, ‘Howdy, man.’ You know, it wasn't that for me, but I certainly wanted to get that that Montana dialect correct. So I worked with Jessica. I'd worked with her on ‘Flight’ and ‘True Detective’ and all these other American accents I'd done. But for Beth, it was more about the voice because she smokes a little bit.
She drinks a lot of bourbon. She a bit more like she comes from here.
Drew: She has a rasp. And, like, a guttural sound.
Kelly: And it was I kind of listened to Kevin a lot because he really deepened his voice for John Dutton. And, so I just stole it. I just copied him.
Drew: He does have more of a Batman Kevin Costner as John Dutton. You're absolutely right.
Kelly on Bringing Personal Experiences to Character Beth Dutton
https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/LjYZRjEjlEDQ
Drew: Do you bring your personal experiences to not only the character but how you emote in a scene.
Kelly: I had gone through just before we started filming the year before we started, I got that job. I had gone through some things in my own personal life. I was in a deep grief and I hadn't figured out who I was beyond that in that moment and I was in a fog at that moment and then this character lands in my lap and I'm like, well, what am I gonna do with this? And she became this sort of life raft for me. So I got to sort of hide in her for a minute while I came back to life and I found my own strength and my own happiness again and I miss her. I miss her when I'm not playing her. So when I get her back on and I'm, you know, I'm putting the dresses on and the boots and the eyeliner and it's like, all right, let's go. And I feel it, I feel that power
Kelly on Her husband of 12 Years Being Love of Her Life & What He Thinks of Beth Dutton

Drew: And then the way that you love Rip, I mean, have, have you ever had a love like that?
Kelly: I have and he's here.
Drew: What, where?
Kelly: I don't know, he's here somewhere. He's probably hiding now. He's in the building. So, yeah, I've been married for 12 years.
Drew: How did you guys meet?
Kelly: Well, we met at his brother's wedding. I was, a girlfriend of mine, I was in California at the time and there was this wedding in Marfa, Texas. And she said, do you want to go on a road trip? And I was like, yes. And I think her boyfriend was out of town. So I got to be the plus one and I thought I'm gonna go riding because I'm a big horse rider in real life. And I had just been riding that morning and I still had like leather on my hands. I think I was a bit of a hot mess. I thought he was Texan. The wedding was in Texas. He's from Long Island and he's the love of my life. And the most beautiful thing that's ever happened to me is my marriage.
Drew: We know the way that, I think one of the reasons why Rip is a beloved character is because he supports you, he gets you and he is the, they're fiercely advocating. What does your husband think of Beth Dutton?
Kelly: Well, he gets to have her a little bit, but not too often. She's like, she's, you know, she's a lot to handle. But he, he's watched me play roles for years and years. And so he knew that Beth meant a great deal to me and I was terrified going into playing her. I really wasn't sure I'd be able to do it and I knew what it was required of me and I didn't want to mess it up. So I gave it everything and, you know, my husband's the first, he just says, well, it doesn't matter if it doesn't work. You, you still get to come home, you come home to me. And that freed me. It freed me to go, yeah like, I'm just gonna go for it and he'll be home.
Kelly on Favorite Scene She’s Done with Co-Star Cole Hauser
https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/7NjDjKz6Xpm8
Cole: What is your favorite and most fun scene that we have done together on Yellowstone.
Kelly: We've done so many. I mean, I have to say Cole and I have a lot of fun together. There's a scene, there's a scene in this season that we haven't, I think it's in Sunday's episode rip is in Texas. He's been gone for three days and Beth can't handle that. So she's like, when are you coming home? I just got here and then she says, well, I think I'm gonna come down and see you. I think she says that in the last week's episode. So she takes a road trip to Texas from Montana. And, so this is pre what happened to her father. That's right in a flashback.
So she takes the road trip to Texas to see him and he's a little bit surprised at how she shows up. So that was quite fun. But my favorite scene I shot was with him. There's so many. It was in season two where he, where she's being attacked. Do you remember that? And she's, and then he like storms through the glass office.
Kelly Reveals She Got Her Mother-In-Law a ‘Don’t Make Me Go Beth Dutton on You’ T-shirt & Drew’s T-Shirt Surprise for Her
https://www.instagram.com/p/DCU_itBSUzm/
Drew: The t-shirt, Don’t make me go Beth Dutton on you.
Kelly: So, I gave this, I think it came out, all the kind of stuff came out in season two and season three and everyone was wearing it and dressing up as Beth for Halloween. That was weird and fabulous but I got my mother in law that t-shirt. Well, I don't know if she wears it, by the way.
Drew: I bet she does. How would she not be so proud, by the way? Well, I made you a t-shirt,, now that, you know, you're going on to other things and this will be timeless and, and forever so it says, ‘Don’t make me go Drew Barrymore on you…and give you a hug!’
