Chris Hemsworth Reveals His Sewing Talent & Fixes Drew’s Sweatpants

Drew:  So, you sewed as a child. You were a fan of sewing a little bit, Chris Hems-worth.

Chris: I like that. You stole my joke. I did, I remember doing cross stitch class at school going, I love this and then like, you know, we didn't have any money and I was like, ‘Oh, I wanted a pair of like corduroy pants.’ So my mum bought me this big sheet of like corduroy material. So then I had like a stencil to cut and sew it and those pants never made it to, to being worn, but the attempt was there.

Drew: Yeah, I would like to see those pants. These are my nicest pair of sweatpants. So we've threaded the needle for you.

Chris: And what's, what's the problem? What's the adjustment you need?

Drew: These are my nicest fanciest pants but I have a hole right here. A genuine hole. So I don't know if you prefer to turn them inside out or right side out.

Chris: It’s just as much easier if, I'm glad you're not wearing them because they could be dangerous. You'll have these, you can wear them by the end of the segment.

Drew: Does your wife ever ask you to sew anything for her?

Chris: She's gonna watch this and go ‘What?’

Drew: By the way, I'm such a fan of her. Elsa Pataki.

Chris: Oh, she's amazing. She holds it together. She holds down the fort well when I'm away and wrangles our three kids and all the animals and.

Drew: And she seems so strong and independent. How did you guys first meet each other? How do you find each other in the world?

Chris: We had a dialect coach in LA that I was working with and just quickly there's your pants fixed.

Chris: So we're the same dialect coach who said, ‘You guys should meet...You know, she's an actress.’ So I did what you do was google someone, saw her photo and I said, ‘Yep, I'll have, I'll have her phone number.  She's, she's pretty.’ And then,, we went out on a date and,, the rest is history.

Drew: You discovered she was pretty on the inside.

Chris: On the inside, that's right, yeah I didn’t even get to that part of the story.

Drew: Because I, that's what I always say to my daughters, where is it the most important to be beautiful? On the inside.

Chris: She took a motorbike on our first date. She showed up on a motorcycle.

Drew: Wait, was she driving it?

Chris: She was riding it. And I thought, oh, cool, she's adventurous and that's kind of that sort of set the stage for most of our relationship…Motorbikes, she’ll surf, she'll snowboard and, and ski and train and ride horses. And so, and I'm active, you know, and that's why our kids are busy, busy humans as well.

Drew: Oh, I've seen your shows. I know how active you are…Do you think that that was something you could have worked through or was it kind of an ideal for you to have a partner to really be able to, to live life to its fullest on your terms? You know, being an adventurous which you so much are.

Chris: Yeah, I think you want to have the similar interest, you know, you gotta find things to do together. It's interesting and fun to have be from completely different walks of life and then there's different things to talk about and different dynamics but having the same interests and the same enthusiasm for the outdoors and sports and so on just keeps it interesting.

Drew: There was this one time that I was in an area where you were at, I feel like still kick myself.

Chris: Was this about 10 years ago?

Drew: Was it at a hair salon?  

Chris: Yes. This is hilarious. I was getting my hair either tipped or blond-ed or darkened of something for a movie.

Drew: It was highlighted….I’m not kidding I was too nervous to go up to you. The whole hour or two I was sitting there I was like, ‘I just want to meet Chris Hemsworth. I just want to meet him and I want to say hello.’

Chris: I was thinking the same thing.

Drew: No.

Chris: Absolutely. Are you kidding? I was like, ‘She won’t know who I am and it will be awkward. I’d be like a crazy fan.’

Drew: I was trying to be respectful. Of course, I was freaking out the whole time….Have you ever had that happen and have you ever had a regret from not saying hi to someone?

Chris: Besides that moment. I went to, ‘Once Upon A Time in Hollywood,’ premiere and I was a huge Brad Pitt fan. Loved the guy as I was coming up acting, even before I wanted to be an actor I loved his films. So all night I kind of kept looking away and sort of avoiding him and then eventually he came over and he said, ‘Chris,’ and I was like, ‘Oh hey Brad, yeah hey man.’ Immediately it was like, ‘What am I doing?’ And then I went in for this awkward cuddle, handshake thing. Anyway, but yeah I know what you mean.

Drew: So it happens to you too?

Chris: It happens to everybody.
