David: The first movie you produced was ‘Never Been Kissed?’

Drew: That was our first official.

David: The script was so amazing and you play the romantic lead of a movie, beautiful as you are. But then the nerdiest parts of yourself, you’re like Cherry Chase in that movie.

Drew: Oh my God.

David: I'm a sucker for Pat Falls.

Christine: The physical comedy.

Drew: Best reference I could ever get. There were, ‘Never Been Kissed’ was very interesting because it was our first official film for Flower Films. And at that time, people were very weary of actors being producers. A lot of it wasn't necessarily working and it didn't mean because you're an actor, you knew how to produce a film and it was about the economics. So if you didn't make the film work and you produced it as an actor, you were likely to not be able to do it again. And I was very stressed throughout the movie. I don't think I've ever told anybody this.

This is the first time I've ever admitted this. I was so scared during the whole film because I knew if it didn't work, we weren't gonna get another chance. And so we had so much fun making it. It was the best time ever. But I had to clench stomach the whole time because, and I would get these calls from the studio and they were like, ‘I'm sorry, but you're just looking too unattractive.’ And I was like, ‘Good.’ And they were like, ‘No, no, no, no, no, no,’ they were like, ‘It's, it's too far.’ And so I was forced to even tone it down a little bit because I had gone even farther than they were, then they said something that appealed to my sensibilities rather than my ego. They were like, ‘We don't want you to lose the heart because you're going so far for the comedy’ and I was like, ‘Great argument. Let me dial it back a little bit.’ And so Josie, what you see there is me dialed back and it, it came out and it worked and we got really lucky and, and I'm very, very grateful and I would walk around just going, ‘Ican't believe this worked. We're gonna get a second shot.’
