Anne Hathaway on Feeling Blocked and a Psychic Telling Her She Would be a Drew Barrymore
https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/rLvmwObKHZ6D
Anne: I wasn’t going to tell this story but you know what this is like, I got a job and I couldn’t do it because I was contractually obligated to do another job and I was really sad and I was walking around a flea market in L.A. just like, ‘Oh my god what’s gonna happen is everything gonna be okay?’ I was so nervous and this young girl comes up to me she goes, ‘Can I just stop you for one second?’ I’m like, ‘Okay,’ she goes, ‘I’m a psychic…and I need to tell you something. You were just blocked from something and it’s gonna be okay but you’re not on the path you should be you’re supposed to be like a Drew Barrymore,’ and it meant the world to me it was such a sign I was like, ‘Everything’s gonna be okay I just have to hang in there and everything’s gonna be okay because I’m gonna be a Drew Barrymore.’
Drew: Oh my god if I could only be an Anne Hathaway.
Behind-the-Scenes: Anne on the Rager She Threw for the Cast of “Ella Enchanted,” Auditing for “The Princess Diaries” During a Layover and Meryl Streep Giving Her Chills on “The Devil Wears Prada”

Drew:…‘Ella Enchanted,’ you threw a cast party that turned into a rager?
Anne: I was so excited because I was Ella of ‘Ella Enchanted,’ so I was like, ‘I should throw a cast party, invite the crew, help everybody to know each other.’ So my cousin and I were living in this little apartment just outside of Dublin we invited everyone….someone just kept ordering alcohol it turned into this full blown rager. It was so much fun. Anyway, the night ended, my cousin goes to sleep we wake up in the morning and we walk out into our living room with our coffee and we’re like, ‘Oh there’s a man on the floor. What do we do?’ We’re like, ‘Excuse me, good morning,’ and this Irish guy sits up, he looks around and he goes, ‘Ah not again.’
Drew: I’ve been him…‘The Princess Diaries.’ Is there a layover story in this?
Anne: Yes. I got a job that shot in New Zealand and I found out about it the day after I graduated from high school, and I found out that I was gonna have a layover in Los Angeles for 24 hours and I called up my manager and I said, ‘I think what we should do is book me every audition we can while I’m in L.A., by the way have they cast that princess movie yet?’ and she said, ‘No I don’t think they have and they may be seeing people the day you’re there isn’t that funny,’ and I’m like, ‘Great if they would see me I’d love to be seen on the princess movie. I really love that script,’ and so I went and I auditioned for ‘The Princess Diaries’ on a layover on my way to making my first film in New Zealand.
Drew:…Would you ever do a third?
Anne: Oh yeah. I’m hoping we do a third. I know I say this every few years. We’re trying.
Drew:…‘The Devil Wears Prada.’ What was it like to be in the room with the speech, the cerulean blue?
Anne: I remember being at the table read through and Meryl arrived, and she’s just Meryl she’s gorgeous and blonde and she’s also just so giving and warm and then we began reading and the voice came out and all of the sudden she was just a different human being. I still get chills thinking about actually it just happened and I was like, ‘I think I’m witnessing cinematic greatness right now. Do not mess it up.’
Is Anne Hathaway’s Husband Shakespeare’s Husband Reincarnated
https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/7ILyfQWplKoP
Drew: I was at this play that I love so much…and a lot of it is influenced by Shakespeare’s wife and her name is Anne Hathaway. Then I did a little digging, there’s a conspiracy theory about your husband and I feel like I actually just need to bring up the picture, that he might be William Shakespeare reincarnated.
Anne: It’s kinda nuts right.
Drew: It took seeing the photo for me to go, ‘Oh I should take this seriously.’
Anne: It’s weird right. It would be great if it’s true but if not still kinda great. He’s cute, I don’t want to go on about him but yeah.
Drew: The last time we talked, the way you talked about him.
Anne: I’m blushing.
Drew: And you’ve been together eleven years?
Anne: Eleven years married, fifteen together.
Anne: This is what’s really crazy, his and my second date was at your Halloween party where you dressed up as Tippi Hedren from ‘The Birds’ which is an inspiration for my character in ‘Eileen.’
Anne on Her Relationship with Her Husband Lasting 15 Years
https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/1V4sMmo733lk
Drew: Fifteen years, what do you think you do with and for each other that keeps you speaking about each other in this way that’s so admiring and loving.
Anne: I think it’s a little bit the luck of the draw but we’re really just lucky that we keep growing together, but we have this thing it’s actually a tattoo, and the idea is that individually we’re whole but together we’re more. And so I think it’s just that thing about I don’t expect him to complete me and he doesn’t expect me to complete him. I’m my own person he’s his own person and we choose to be together because we believe we make each other better and this union is something we both want to participate in.
