Drew: When I had my kids, all of the sudden I couldn’t play anyone else. I think I needed to be my kids’ mom, like that mission became so clear, and when the show came along and the opportunity, one of the things I didn’t want to be was like, ‘I was born today, and I have no backstory.’
P!nk: I understand that completely and I think you do an incredible job of it also, because you’re such a lovable person and you do have a backstory and you haven’t hid it. And that’s another thing we have in common because I know my kids are gonna know all of me either by what I tell them, by what they hear out of my mouth or what they see that I’ve already said before they were around.
Drew: That’s the thing. And I didn’t know when I was younger and I was partying. I don’t feel bad about the narrative, even this crazy stuff I experienced, okay both of us partied starting at like nine. It’s like I didn’t know I was ever gonna have kids.
P!nk: Couldn’t picture it right?
Drew: No.
P!nk: Me neither.
Drew: And my parents split up so I didn’t think families stayed together. I didn’t think I would ever have kids and I just sort of lived. You know when you’re young and you’re just like immortal, and you’re just having the best time ever.
P!nk: I don’t even mix Tylenol and Advil now. Oh how the pendulum swings.
P!nk and Drew on Sharing Life Lessons with Their Children

Drew: What can I tell myself when I’m afraid my kids will do some of the stuff I did?
P!nk: Great question. That Xanax is available. I mean we made it, why did we make it? We made terrible decisions. The kids, they’re gonna be alright, because they can borrow some of our knowledge, they’re gonna buy their own. And we have open conversations about life and I’m trying to walk that line of like, ‘I want you to have a childhood, I want to preserve your innocence, but I also need you to be prepared for the world that we live in,’ and not to be a Debbie downer but these kids are having active shooter drills in school, like this is the world we live in they need to be prepared. So we go to Disneyland, we eat ice cream and we talk about our feelings.
P!nk on Taking Her Kids on Tour and Them Coming First

P!nk: And I get to take them through the world and I have a really good support system. They’re also awesome travelers. They’re good kids, like if it didn’t work for them we wouldn’t be able to do it, but I’m so lucky to be able to take them on tour and to be able to write the schedule…Willow and I had a very teary conversation about this tour because she has needs now, I didn’t even know I was gonna get my period. I thought I was being murdered from within…Willow and I talk about everything. We have a great relationship and I told her, I said, ‘I know you have things that you want to do, and also this isn’t just my job, I worked really hard for this and there’s a handful of people that get to do this and I’m good at it and I care about it very much and I think in a small way I help people I hope, but that doesn’t mean it means more than your childhood or what you mean to me. I’ll walk away tomorrow. If that’s what you want, I’ll walk away tomorrow, but this time it means we’re gonna have to miss each other a little bit occasionally,' and I’ve never been away from them, I'm so codependent…

Drew: But how as parents are we gonna advise our kids to find their way, and how would we even recommend to anyone else out there how they would find their way?
P!nk: I mean my focus was so singular. I almost feel like it was so easy for that one thing to keep me alive. I, on the Thanksgiving of '95, it was a night that I don’t remember and could have been my last, and what got me up was the microphone's open. You can sing. You wanna sing right? You’ve gotta get up, you gotta get up now, and so that saved my life. So, I would say try everything until you find that thing that you would just give your all to…I would say don’t be afraid of you own power and don’t be afraid to say no, don’t be afraid of boundaries, and don’t be afraid to take your own spiritual machete and carve your own path.
