JASON ZUFFRANIERI’S ‘JEOPARDY!’ STREAK ENDS AFTER
19 GAMES AND $532,496 IN WINNINGS
Washington, D.C.’s Gabe Brison-Trezise Wins Thursday’s Game
CULVER CITY, CALIF. (September 26, 2019) – Albuquerque, N.M., math teacher Jason Zuffranieri’s 19-game JEOPARDY! streak came to an end today when Gabe Brison-Trezise, a researcher from Washington, D.C., came out on top with a score of $22,400. Zuffranieri finished second with $19,500.
Over the course of his 19 wins, Zuffranieri earned $532,496 in prize money, and he now holds the number three spot on JEOPARDY!’s all-time highest regular season cash winnings list. Only two contestants have ever earned more money than Zuffranieri in non-tournament play: James Holzhauer ($2,462,216) and Ken Jennings ($2,520,700).
Zuffranieri also ends his streak tied for fourth place on the all-time JEOPARDY! consecutive games list: David Madden also won 19 games in Season 22. Only three players have won more than 19 games: Julia Collins (20 games), Holzhauer (32 games), and Jennings (74 games).
“My mentality for 25 years was that I wasn’t meant to be on the show for whatever reason: not smart enough, not camera-friendly, not interesting, whatever,” said Zuffranieri, who auditioned for JEOPARDY! eight times before making it on the show on his ninth attempt. “To finally get a chance on that stage was a dream come true, and the level of good fortune I received is truly beyond anything I ever considered could happen.”
