CHEAT TWEET: Kelly Clarkson talks to @ETonlineAlert's @NancyODell about "pitchy strippers" VMAs tweet: "I was just being funny." http://et.tv/16y88fv
October 9, 2013 (New York, NY) – Grammy award winning artist Kelly Clarkson opened up to ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT’s Nancy O’Dell about fellow musician Miley Cyrus’ provocative MTV Video Music Awards performance. The night of the VMA’s, Clarkson tweeted about the show’s performances describing some of them as “pitchy strippers” and the media connected her comment with Miley’s controversial performance. When asked by O’Dell if her tweet was targeted at Cyrus, Clarkson explains, “I was just being funny.... you can take whatever you want from that. I didn't say names. I never said any names.”
Clarkson goes on to tell O’Dell, “People always say, ‘How did you make it ten years?’ My whole focus has always been the talent, I don't want to distract from that. There's cool ways to complement it, you could be sexy sometimes, you could be fun and playful, you can be whatever the song calls for. My fear for a lot of people in the industry is [they are] clouding [their] actual talent. People aren't going to ever want to see you because you're talented, they're going to want to see what kind of big circus is going to happen.”
