Drew: Did you get to see a human heart, like a real one?

Sophia: Yeah, so I spent all my time prepping shadowing surgeons in Los Angeles, and I was able to scrub into these open-heart surgeries, and be in the OR for 6, 7, 8, hours, turns out I’m completely not queasy…and I’m in there like how do you make the decision to harvest that vein and how do you not go to the leg because if I look under the rib cage here…and the doctors were just like why do you know this, and in one of them I’m standing over this man whose had a quadruple bypass, and the perfusionist fills his heart back up with blood. I’m still gonna cry, I’m sorry, and his heart starts beating and I’m standing there looking at it and I’m like if people could see this I swear to you we’d never fight another war ever again, and every time I think about him I just cry. It changed my life.

Sophia: She has not come on the podcast.

Drew: But is it true that you sat next to her at an event and what happened, please tell me the story.

Sophia: Years ago, when I was doing ‘One Tree Hill’ my character was becoming a fashion designer, so I was coming to fashion week here and meeting with all these people and learning about what they do for research, and I went to this dinner and Rihanna comes to this dinner and we sit next to each other and she’s like your show’s cool, we’re chatting, she gives me her phone number which I input in my Blackberry at the time and I never texted her. And then that photo you showed I saw her at an event years later and she was like how have you been I never heard from you and I was like oh my god I ghosted Rihanna, what is wrong with me. But I just am like what am I gonna text her, hey girl, I don’t know how to talk to her.

Drew: Okay so I got to spend time with Oprah Winfrey in Montecito, and she was like I live around the corner come over let’s make soup, and I too was like way too intimidated to be like hey should we follow through on that plan. So, what if we ask Rihanna and Oprah for a re-do?

Sophia: I would love it

Drew: Social scaredy-cat re-do.

Sophia: We’ll just show up and be like hey ladies the awkward girls are here.

Drew: What’s wrong with us?

Sophia: And like Rihanna’s having a baby and I’m so happy for her and I can’t even tell her congratulations because I never texted her.

Drew: Baby clothes.

Sophia: That’s the in.

Drew: And I’ll get Oprah some soup and send it to her.

Drew and Ross Weigh in on Voting for the Oscars on Twitter

Drew: ‘Variety’ reports that fans can now vote for their favorite movie of 2021, that’s right you can vote on Twitter or the Oscars website until March 3 and you can pick any movie that you think was the year’s best, results will be announced live on the stage on the Oscars. I don’t even know where to unpack this bag but, why this hasn’t happened sooner, I love this, you see millions of people writing in for the ‘American Idols’ of the world. Fan participation is a wonderful thing. I am so excited about this.

Ross: Me too, listen I love the Oscars it is my New Years…everything, but there are some years when like what’s voted on as the best doesn’t really reflect what audiences are going to see, I’m on board I mean can I get a time machine to go back and vote for ‘Steel Magnolias’ over and over again.

Drew:…I agree, I also think in this new modern era don’t be archaic and so snooty falooty, let’s get the fans in there.

Ross: Absolutely, and it’s a way to honor…for example, this year ‘Spider Man’ everybody on the planet saw ‘Spider Man’ and there was a lot of buzz it could be nominated for best picture because it brought so many audiences out to the theater again. It missed it but here’s a chance and I think that’s probably the leader, don’t you think?

Drew: I feel like it might get my vote for sure.

Ross: Is Drew Barrymore going to go to Twitter and vote?

Drew: I absolutely am. I love the Oscars but I always felt like some connection to fans was missing and this might be the piece I’ve been waiting for.

Ross: I think they’ve finally figured it out. 94 years…thanks Oscars.

Drew: The results will be announced live on stage…I watch every Oscars, but this year I will be very excited for this.
