‘JEOPARDY!’ DONATES $164,410 TO ‘BE THE MATCH®’ AS
ROBIN ROBERTS COMPLETES GUEST HOST RUN
LeVar Burton to Guest Host July 26-30
CULVER CITY, CALIF. (July 23, 2021) – Robin Roberts wraps up her time as guest host of JEOPARDY! today, and as she departs, the show will make a $164,410 contribution to Be The Match.
Roberts selected Be The Match®, the National Marrow Donor Program®, to receive a donation equal to the winnings of each of the contestants that appeared on JEOPARDY! during her time as guest host. Be The Match helps patients battling blood cancers like leukemia and blood diseases like sickle cell get a second chance at life through life-saving blood stem cell or marrow transplants. The organization also provides guidance, support and funds to help patients before, during and after transplant.
Starting Monday, July 26, LeVar Burton will take his turn as guest host. A lifelong children’s literacy advocate, Burton selected Reading Is Fundamental as his chosen charity. Reading Is Fundamental is committed to a literate America by inspiring a passion for reading among all children, providing quality content to make an impact and engaging communities in the solution to give every child the fundamentals for success. As the nation’s largest children’s literacy non-profit, Reading Is Fundamental maximizes every contribution to ensure all children have the ability to read and succeed.
Burton is an award-winning actor, director, and the cofounder of the Skybrary App; he is also the former host and executive producer of PBS's “Reading Rainbow.” He hosts his own podcast, “LeVar Burton Reads,” highlighting the best short fiction, and created a YouTube series “This Is My Story,” which focuses on racism in America. Some of Burton’s most recognizable acting roles are as Kunta Kinte in the acclaimed mini-series “Roots” and as Lt. Commander Geordi LaForge in “Star Trek: The Next Generation.” Over the course of his career, he has earned 21 Emmy Awards, a George Foster Peabody Award, and a Grammy Award.
