A DR. PHIL EXCLUSIVE: THE GARY CONDIT INTERVIEW

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 15 YEARS, FORMER CONGRESSMAN DISCUSSES
TRAGIC MURDER OF WASHINGTON, D.C. INTERN CHANDRA LEVY

AIRING THURSDAY, OCTOBER 27

(Hollywood, CA – October 24, 2016) -- Television’s #1-rated daytime talk show, DR. PHIL, speaks exclusively with former California Congressman Gary Condit, granting his first interview in 15 years to discuss the 2001 disappearance and subsequent murder of D.C. intern, Chandra Levy.  The scandal, which shook Capitol Hill and shocked the nation, is described in his new book, “Actual Malice – A True Crime Political Thriller,” which he co-wrote with Breton Peace, chronicling the heartache and intrigue behind the headlines.  The episode airs Thursday, October 27th. (check local listings).

Levy, an intern for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, vanished in 2001 causing what the media themselves describe as a “journalism jamboree” of around-the-clock coverage offering speculation and accusations as described in the book. While the public and the media branded Condit the prime suspect, police never named him as one and he was later cleared of any involvement in Levy’s disappearance and murder. In 2010, Ingmar Guandique, was convicted of and sentenced to 60 years in prison for her murder. While he was granted a new trial in June of 2015, just three months ago prosecutors announced they would not proceed with a retrial but would instead seek to have Guandique deported. Find out what Condit had to say about these developments in an all new DR. PHIL exclusive.

Select quotes from the episode:

Why is it that you will not answer publicly if you had a sexual relationship with Chandra Levy?”

Dr. Phil to Gary Condit

Did you have anything to do with the murder of Chandra Levy?”

Dr. Phil

It’s a story about a bad investigation. It just went wrong in every way you can conceive. It became a soap opera.”

Gary Condit on his book “Actual Malice”

When Chandra went missing, her father called my home in California. He had been trying to get a hold of his daughter and she was not responding. He asked if I could be helpful. He knew I was the congressman for the district and knew that she had visited my office several times.”

Gary Condit

These guys were going to set me up. They were going to frame me for something. There was something going on that was beyond my control and it was moving pretty fast.”

Gary Condit on police investigators

As I would walk through the airport people would walk up to me and ask, ‘Where did you hide the body?’ or yell across the room at me ‘murderer.’”

Gary Condit on the public’s reaction to him in 2001
