SANDIE BAKER FINISHES SIX-GAME ‘JEOPARDY!’ STREAK WITH $140,200 TOTAL WINNINGS

CULVER CITY, CALIF. (April 17, 2014) – Sandie Baker, a 51-year-old translation and data coordinator from Eastpointe, Mich., came up short in her bid for a seventh consecutive JEOPARDY! win, finishing second in an episode that aired today. She won a total of $140,200 in her six previous victories.

“I had no idea how I would do [on the show],” Baker said. “I just wanted to do the best I could and not make a fool out of myself on television.”

Baker completed a Graphic Arts degree at Macomb Community College in Warren, Mich., and feels that her education there helped with her success on JEOPARDY!.

“College helped, but I am also self-educated,” said Baker. “I am just curious about many different subjects, and I satisfy that curiosity by going to the library and getting books on whatever the topic du jour is.”

She initially said that her winnings “didn’t even seem real, like it was Monopoly money,” but since then she has made “real plans for real money.”

“I would like to go to Latvia; my dad and his parents are from there and that is a place I have always wanted to see for myself,” she said. “I’ll also do some fix-up projects around the house, pay off some bills, and donate to my church. I will also be able to help charities that are meaningful to me: the Salvation Army, the Red Cross and the Macomb County Rotating Emergency Shelter Team.”

Baker has a chance at more cash next season, as her six wins will qualify her for participation in the next JEOPARDY! Tournament of Champions.
