omg! INSIDER’s co-host Thea Andrews sits down with the entire cast of China Beach to allow them to catch up and re-live lifelong memories. The 1988 hit drama series, which ran until 1991, was set at an American base during the Vietnam War. Unlike the other series and films of that time, China Beach focused on the everyday lives of the people who served our countryincluding female servicewomen.  China Beach was responsible for starting the careers of both small and big screen household names such as Intelligence’s Marg Helgenberger,  Body of Proof’s Dana Delany, The Good Wife’s Michael Boatman, television host Ricki Lake among others.  omg! INSIDER’s entertainment magazine exclusive contains interviews with the full cast including Helgenberger, Delany, Boatman, Lake, Robert Picardo, Concetta Tomei, Brian Wimmer, Jeff Kober, Nancy Giles, Troy Evans and Chloe Webb.

Many of China Beach’s episodes and story lines were based on real-life stories of those who served, Helgenberger, who won an EmmyAward for her portrayal of K.C. Kolowski on China Beach, states, “We gave [the Vietnam War Veterans] an opportunity to let their stories be told…and I know that it had an impact on their lives.”

While discussing the actual heroes the cast portrayed, Delany, who won two Emmy Awards for her role as Colleen McMurphy, exclaims to Andrews, “It was all about the soldiers.  It was the first time that I believed in altruism…It just kind of changed my life, it changed my career, it changed me.”

China Beach’s cast and crew were recipients of numerous industry accolades and awards including a prestigious Peabody Award, a HumanitasPrize, a Writers Guild Award, 29 Emmy Award nominations and a People’s Choice Award for “Favorite New Dramatic TV Program.”
