(Los Angeles, CA – January 16, 2013) – Dr. Phil will examine the case of two high school football players accused of raping a 16-year-old girl to find out whether law enforcement officials are trying to protect a beloved athletic program or see that justice is served.  This must-see episode for parents of teenagers will air on Thursday, January 17, 2013 (check local listings).  

On August 11, 2012 two members of the Steubenville High School football team allegedly molested a girl from a neighboring town during a night of partying.   That night, photos, text messages and social media posts began circulating that provided details of what allegedly happened to the girl, resulting in the arrests of star players Ma’lik Richmond and Trent Mays, both 16.  Many have questioned whether more players might have been involved and if enough was done to aid the alleged victim.  

“What allegedly happened that night will make any parent sick,” said Dr. Phil.    

During the show, Dr. Phil also questions local law enforcement officials about another alleged attack of a teen girl by high school students in the same town.   

Appearing on the show will be crime blogger Alexandria Goddard who has covered the case since August; attorney Walter Madison who represents Richmond; a Steubenville High football player who believes his teammates are innocent; the player’s mother; City of Steubenville Chief of Police William McCafferty; Jefferson County Sheriff Fred Abdalla and legal analyst Robin Sax.
