‘JEOPARDY!’ HEADS TO WASHINGTON, D.C. FOR POWER PLAYERS WEEK

CULVER CITY, CALIF. (Feb. 23, 2012) – This election year, America’s Favorite Quiz Show®, “Jeopardy!,” is going to Washington, D.C. to challenge fifteen of the country’s most influential personalities, including political figures, authors, journalists and newsmakers in Power Players Week.  The competition will tape Saturday, April 21, at DAR Constitution Hall in front of an audience of thousands.

“I can’t think of a more exciting time to be in the nation’s capital than during a presidential election year,” said Executive Producer Harry Friedman.  “Washington, D.C., is home to so many dedicated fans and top leaders.  It is the perfect location and backdrop for the competition.”

“I’m thrilled about going to Washington, D.C. and hosting the show in front of such a large audience,” said “Jeopardy!” Host Alex Trebek.  “The Power Players shows will not only be incredibly entertaining to watch, but also enlightening.”

“There aren’t many TV shows like ‘Jeopardy!’ that have such a broad appeal and strong fan base.  It is consistently one of the highest-rated shows in the market,” said Bill Lord, general manager of ABC 7, WJLA.  “We’re very excited to welcome ‘Jeopardy!’ to Washington, D.C.  One thing is certain, this will be one of the most highly sought-after tickets in town.”

This is only the third Power Players Week in the show’s 28-year history.  Past notable contestants have included Comedian/Author Al Franken (currently a U.S. Senator representing Minnesota), former White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer and Author/Journalist Bob Woodward.  This year’s Power Players will be competing for a guaranteed $50,000 for the charity of their choice. 

Power Players Week will air nationally May 14-18.  In Washington, D.C., “Jeopardy!” airs weekdays on ABC 7, WJLA, at 7 p.m.

In addition to Power Players Week, “Jeopardy!” will tape the semifinal and final matches of one of its perennial fan favorites, the Teen Tournament, on Friday, April 20.  The Teen Tournament features fifteen of the nation’s brightest students, vying for a chance to win the $75,000 grand prize.  This year’s competitors are among the best yet, selected from over 20,000 students competing for a spot in the elite tournament.  The Teen Tournament will broadcast April 30-May 11.
