ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT: DOG THE BOUNTY HUNTER SPEAKS OUT ON HIS GRANDSON'S ALLEGED BEATING
October 27, 2011 (Honolulu, HI) - ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT's Chris Jacobs sits down with Duane "Dog the Bounty Hunter" Chapman as he goes on the record for the first time about the now infamous audio tapes of his grandson, "Little" Travis, allegedly being beaten by his own father, "Big" Travis Mimms. "Little" Travis is the only child of Chapman's daughter Barbara, who died in a car accident when the boy was just 4 years old. Chapman says that the alleged beating resulted after "Little" Travis told his classmates at school that his father, 6-foot-9-inch tall Travis Senior, was beating him.
Chapman upon discovering the audio tape: "I was in LA at Gene Simmons' wedding and I got the tape emailed to me. It was overwhelming to me and I got mad. I instantly thought, I can't wait to get my hands around "Big" Travis' throat but then I am trained enough to know not to do that."
Chapman on how the situation escaladed: "The school had told ["Big"] Travis 'your son is telling his friends he's getting beat!' So because the teacher went to the parent- the abuser- and said, 'hey there's rumors you're beating your kid,' he went home and did exactly that."
Chapman on how he; his wife, Beth; daughter, Baby Lyssa and others went through government channels to have "Little" Travis taken from "Big" Travis: "I felt like [there] was a bounty on ["Big"] Travis. But I thought, this is your grandson, there's no bounty. When I caught ["Big" Travis] I got the same feeling only this was my love, my grandson. I felt like, wow, I got him."
"Big" Travis denies being an abuser: "I spanked ["Little" Travis] 3 times. I've said it from day one... one's for me, one's for God, one's for him."
Dog The Bounty Hunter returns to A&E on Wednesday, December 14 at 9PM/8PM Central.
