HALLE BERRY ON SWIMMING WITH SHARKS AND DAUGHTER NAHLA "ACTING IS IN HER BLOOD"
Los Angeles, CA - September 16, 2010 - ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT's MARK STEINES visited exclusively with Halle Berry on the set of her first film in three years, Dark Tide, for a new interview to air tonight, September 16th.
In Dark Tide, Halle plays Kate, a "Shark Whisperer" who has sworn off shark encounters following a nearly fatal incident, only to be beckoned back into that world by her estranged husband (Olivier Martinez).
Halle tells ET about filming with great white sharks, "I touched a real shark, like a real great white shark in the wild! When I went to go touch the shark they had me tethered to the boat, and I finally said, 'Wait a second, why am I tied to the boat?' And they said, 'Well if the shark gets you, we want them to just get your arm and not your whole body!' [But] we all knew that we took every safety precaution, it was something I wanted to do and that I felt like you know would be safe to try to do."
She goes on to say that working on a boat on location in South Africa was a challenge for the cast and crew, a number of whom came down with seasickness, and Halle wasn't spared from the illness. "I got seasick the first day, threw up on [co-star] Olivier [Martinez]'s shoes," Halle says. "About nine people got taken off the boat because they couldn't handle it," she adds.
On the film's set outside London, Halle says that her daughter Nahla doesn't really understand her job quite yet. "She knows something goes on weird with Mommy because when we leave the house there's always paparazzi and people flashing and its kinda tense and stressful, so she knows something goes on different with Mommy unlike anybody else," Halle says, adding, "I don't think she knows what that is yet." When asked if she thinks that Nahla has caught the acting bug, Halle confesses, "I think she's got it in her blood."
Tune in to ET tonight for more of our Halle exclusive! Dark Tide hits theaters in the summer of 2011.
