CTD & KATALYST MEDIA DEVELOP WEB SENSATION BLAH GIRLS FOR TV SERIES
THE ‘BLAH GIRLS' MAKE THEIR DEBUT ON ‘THE INSIDER' ON MAY 13
LOS ANGELES - May 13, 2009 - CBS Television Distribution (CTD) and Katalyst Media, a branded social content studio co-founded by Ashton Kutcher (www.twitter.com/aplusk) and Jason Goldberg, are developing a television series around the "Blah Girls" (http://www.blahgirls.com/) characters created by David & Goliath, Inc. http://www.davidandgoliathtees.com/.
The animated series "Blah Girls," created initially for the Web by Katalyst Media and David & Goliath, will make its television debut on CTD's THE INSIDER in roughly one-minute interstitials on May 13. The popular culture-obsessed teen "Blah Girls" - Krystle, Tiffany and Britney - will offer up their unique take on Hollywood and celebrities in the news each week. The episodes will also appear on TheInsider.com, where viewers can watch, leave comments and interact with the "Girls."
Terry Wood, President of Creative Affairs and Development for CTD stated, "The ‘Blah Girls' bring viewers a fresh approach -- with attitude - to the current obsession with celebrities. The first time I saw it, I thought these 'Girls' get it! They make celeb-watching fun."
"In addition to having the ‘Girls' appear on THE INSIDER, we join Ashton and his team at Katalyst in firmly believing that the ‘Blah Girls' has great potential to be its own cable or syndicated series so we are actively developing that concept," she added.
"Moving the Blah Girls from the Web to television is a demonstration of Katalyst's intent to further develop social content with an eye toward cross-platform reach," said Ashton Kutcher, Katalyst Media co-founder. "This distribution agreement with CBS is a fantastic demonstration of the power and possibility of convergence."
This project was born out of CBS's overall development deal with Katalyst Media.
Now in its fifth season, THE INSIDER is a daily, half-hour entertainment newsmagazine produced and distributed by CBS Television Distribution in Studio City, Calif. Linda Bell Blue is Executive Producer. CBS Television Distribution is a unit of CBS Corp.
