Drew: Will you play behind the scenes?...’The Outsiders’ 

Rob: Okay so my behind-the-scenes on this photo, that’s a very famous photo it’s the first cast photo of the ‘Outsiders’ and Patrick Swayze is standing on bricks to make himself look taller. I was like, ‘Oh that’s a pro baller move.’ 

Drew: He really was like the patriarch figure…what was it like to be with that group?

Rob: A lot of testosterone. I turned eighteen on the set.  

Drew: Who was the naughtiest?

Rob: Oh C. Thomas Howell. The ponyboy, the youngest. The youngest was the naughtiest…it was my first movie and my first time away from home. I was learning how to do my own laundry at a laundromat. Me and Cruise in our rent a car trying to figure out how to get our jeans washed. 

Drew: Another societal awakening, ‘St. Elmo’s Fire.’ 

Rob: First of all that hairdo I’m wearing, there’s a lot of flammable material in that hair.

Drew: So I had the chickenpox and I was obsessed with Rob…and somehow you heard I got the chickenpox and you called me. I thought for sure that my mom was playing a trick on me in a really sweet way and I’ll never forget the house we lived in, the phone I was on, where I was in the room, and we talked and you invited me to your birthday party, and I came and it was the best night of my life. 

Rob: You were so great on the dance floor, cutting it up like a little mini Madonna. 

Drew: Which is exactly what I was going for. 

Rob's Ohio Roots Inspired the Cow Tipping Scene in "Tommy Boy"

Drew: ‘Tommy Boy.’

Rob: That scene is the cow tipping scene. I’m from Ohio, cow tipping is a real thing. We really do it. The writers of that show could not believe it, they thought I was making it up, they thought it was a bit. I told them about it and they put that scene in the script and that was my contribution to the script of ‘Tommy Boy.’  

Drew: And Chris Farley, I love him so much. 

Rob: I would take him to dinner he would order two steaks and on top of each bite he would put a cube of butter and when I would look at him like, ‘Chris what are you doing?’ he’d be like, ‘It needs a hat.’

John Owen: You do post a lot of thirst traps for a 59-year-old man. 

Rob: I don’t even know what a thirst trap is. 

Drew: We know the thirst traps…I mean let’s just show one. And then because John Owen is so funny you followed it up with this, but with just John Stamos’ head. How did the John Stamos thing start? 

Rob: He does that to our Christmas cards. He won’t stop.  

Drew: We all think it’s hilarious we don’t want you to stop. In fact I have a little surprise for you…

Drew: You guys have supported each other in amazing things and I’ve been really honest with my kids who are younger, but they know my story, they know I can’t drink, and you guys are an incredible family unit that support each other through every high and low.

Rob: We do and to be able to share recovery, you’re in recovery, I’m in recovery thirty-three years in recovery. Johnny’s got five years in, in fact Johnny’s five year birthday was on Saturday and Johnny I want to give you your five year chip.  

John Owen: That’s really sweet. 

Rob: I love you. I’m proud of you buddy.  

John Owen: I’m speechless. I usually have a witty retort. I don’t have one for that, that was very nice of you.

Drew: Well what about ‘Parks and Rec’ because oh my god.

Rob: I love that photo so much, oh Amy Poehler I love her so much.  

Drew: That was the best cast, the best group of people, was it just so much fun?

Rob: And the friendships that endure from it. We’re all still really good friends. I see Chris Pratt all the time. Katherine Schwarzenegger his wife, my wife is Katherine’s godmother. Isn’t that weird? So it all comes around she was like, ‘Chris Pratt asked me out on a date,’ I’m like, ‘Chris, Chris, my Chris?’ 

Drew: And what did you say? 

Rob: Do it immediately he’s the best.
