SHOWTIME CELEBRATES VALENTINE'S DAY WITH A MINI-MARATHON OF "THE L WORD"

First Four Episodes of Critically-Acclaimed Series to Re-Air on Saturday, February 14

New York, NY, February 9, 2004 -- This Valentine's Day, SHOWTIME is celebrating all things "L" with a mini-marathon of the recently renewed hit series THE L WORD.  On Saturday, February 14th beginning at 9:00 PM ET/PT, the premium network will celebrate Valentine's Day by airing the first four episodes of the critically acclaimed series in succession.  If viewers have missed any of the first episodes, they have an opportunity to catch up with an evening full of THE L WORD.
The pilot episode, airing at 9:00 PM, introduces the world to Bette Porter (JENNIFER BEALS) and Tina Kennard (LAUREL HOLLOMAN), who have been a couple for seven years and want to start a family. Their next-door neighbor, Tim Haspel (ERIC MABIUS), is about to form a couple when his girlfriend, talented young writer Jenny Schecter (MIA KIRSHNER), moves in. Soon, mixing with Bette's and Tina's circle of lesbian friends, Jenny learns that her Midwest university may not have prepared her for what she will learn about life, lust and love in Los Angeles.
In "Let's Do It," airing immediately after the pilot, Bette and Tina wait eagerly to see if Tina will get pregnant. Tim, unaware of her encounter with Jenny, invites Marina (KARINA LOMBARD) to a dinner party, outraging Bette and, once more, Kit (PAM GRIER) tries to make amends.  "Longing" finds Bette engaging in a battle of wills with the chairman of her art gallery.  Meanwhile, Jenny struggles with her feelings for Marina, while Alice (LEISHA HAILEY) tries to regain her self-respect and Dana (ERIN DANIELS) finally gets a date.  Finally, in "Lies, Lies, Lies" Bette greets Tina's pregnancy with apparent delight, despite her work problems, and Jenny's relationship with Marina endangers her relationship with Tim.  Meanwhile Dana's insecurity continues and Alice's mother problems escalate.  A new episode of THE L WORD, entitled "Lawfully," will premiere the next night on Sunday, February 15 at 10:00 PM (ET/PT).

THE L WORD is executive produced by Ilene Chaiken, through her production company Posse Productions, Inc., Steve Golin and Larry Kennar.  The pilot is produced by Kathy Greenberg, Michele Abbott, Bob Roe and Rose Lam.  The pilot teleplay was written by Ilene Chaiken, with the story by Ilene Chaiken and Kathy Greenberg & Michele Abbott.  The pilot was directed by Rose Troche.   The series is internationally distributed by MGM Television Entertainment.
