48 HOURS: “What Happened to Gabby Petito?” was Saturday’s #1 non-sports primetime broadcast with viewers and adults 25-54, and delivered its largest audience since May 16, 2020, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Sept. 25.

The broadcast delivered 3.33 million viewers with 724,000 of them in the key adults 25-54 demographic. 48 HOURS was up +850,000 viewers from the previous week (+34% from 2.48 million) and up +50% in adults 25-54. Compared to the same night a year ago, 48 HOURS was up +11% in viewers and up +20% in adults 25-54.

Saturday’s broadcast featured 48 HOURS and correspondent Jericka Duncan’s report on the murder of travel blogger Gabby Petito and the search for her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie. Petito disappeared while on a cross-country trip with Laundrie. The case has generated nationwide interest and become a focus of social media followers. Laundrie returned home to North Port, Fla., on Sept. 1 alone. Laundrie made no public comments and on the advice of his attorney declined to speak with law enforcement about Petito’s whereabouts. He then disappeared from his family home. Petito’s body was found Sept. 19 in Bridger-Teton National Forrest in Wyoming. Her death was ruled a homicide. A search continues for Laundrie.
