IMAN TALKS CANDIDLY WITH RITA BRAVER ABOUT HER LIFE, CAREER AND MARRIAGE WITH DAVID BOWIE

INTERVIEW BROADCASTS SUNDAY, MARCH 25, ON “CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD”

As the muse for some of the greatest designers of all time—including Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Versace—Iman lit up runways and magazines during the ‘70s and ‘80s. After retiring from modeling in 1994, she founded a cosmetic line designed specifically for women of color, a nearly $30 million business that grew out of her own, often frustrating, experience.

In a candid interview for CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD, Iman talks about the fateful meeting with photographer Peter Beard, who discovered her while walking down a street in Nairobi. She also shares with correspondent Rita Braver the tale of another meeting—with husband David Bowie.

Excerpts from the interview are below.

On meeting Peter Beard:

BRAVER: Did people tell you you were pretty your whole life?

IMAN: No, nobody has ever said to me that I was pretty till I met Peter Beard... He asked me if I have ever been photographed. And I was very insulted.  Because I thought, "Oh, here goes, a white man thinking Africans have never seen a camera before in their lives."

BRAVER:  Did you think he was propositioning you?

IMAN: Oh, absolutely.  I thought he was trying to pick me up.

On meeting David Bowie:

            BRAVER: How'd you meet him?

IMAN: It's very embarrassing. We were set up by our hairdresser…

BRAVER: Was there any clashing of these egos?

IMAN:  Absolutely not. We respect each other… we have the hots for each other, after 20 years, you know.

The full interview will broadcast Sunday, March 25, on the CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD (9:00-10:30 AM/ET) on the CBS Television Network. Rand Morrison is the Executive Producer.
