CBS NEWS' SUNDAY MORNING CONDUCTS A RARE INTERVIEW WITH YUSUF ISLAM (FORMERLY CAT STEVENS) -- YUSUF DISCUSSES HIS FIRST ALBUM IN 28 YEARS
CBS NEWS SUNDAY MORNING broadcasts a revealing interview between Correspondent Mark Phillips and Yusuf Islam as the singer-songwriter reflects on his life as a Muslim for 30 years and his first original album in nearly three decades entitled, An Other Cup. The interview will be broadcast Sunday, Dec. 3 (9:00-10:30 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
When asked by Phillips why he stopped recording as Cat Stevens, Yusuf said, "A lot of people would have loved me to keep singing. ...You come to a point where you have sung, more or less ...your whole repertoire and you want to get down to the job of living. You know, up until that point, I hadn't had a life. I'd been searching, been on the road."
When asked by Phillips about his beliefs about current religious tensions in the world, Yusuf added, "I don't think that God sent us prophets and books to fight about these books and these prophets. But they were telling us, actually, how to live together. If we ignore those teachings...whichever faith you belong, you profess, then I think we'll be finding ourselves in an even deeper mess."
