"48 HOURS" INVESTIGATES THE DARK AND LIGHTER SIDE OF COSMETIC SURGERY, FRIDAY, MAY 3

Notorious Plastic Surgeon Daniel Callahan Arrested as "48 Hours" Cameras Roll

Last year alone, 8.5 million cosmetic surgical and non-surgical procedures were performed, triple the number from the last decade. With cosmetic enhancement more popular than ever, 48 HOURS looks at three very different stories, including one involving Daniel Callahan, the notorious St. Petersburg, Fla. doctor who was recently arrested for performing cosmetic surgery without a license. Also included in the 48 HOURS report is the story of three lifelong friends, all age 53, who decided to have facelifts together; and a Botox party, a growing trend among young people. 48 HOURS: "Perfect" will be broadcast on Friday, May 3 (10:00-11:00 PM, EDT/PDT) on the CBS Television Network.

Angie Paquette and Penny and Jaime Wood, all of Tampa, Fla., got a lot more than they bargained for when Daniel Callahan performed cosmetic surgery on them in Mexico. They did not realize that the doctor gave up his medical license to the State of Florida seven years ago because of accusations of malpractice and taking sexual advantage of patients. He had also lost several sexual harassment cases before. Jaime tells correspondent Troy Roberts the heart-wrenching story of how his wife, Penny, died from complications from the anesthesia before the operation. Paquette reveals a number of problems resulting from her surgery, including a severe breast implant infection that Callahan wouldn't treat in the U.S. and recommended an internist in the area to call.

48 HOURS went?undercover?to find Callahan still practicing in Mexico, and had a producer from 48 HOURS pose?as?a?potential patient, who met Callahan in a Florida restaurant to discuss potential surgery. Callahan agreed to do the surgery without any physical examination, asking only for some personal snapshots. 48 HOURS then?follows the State of Florida's own investigation as it?closes in on Callahan, capturing his arrest?on camera.

Three lifelong friends from Southpoint, Ohio -- Sandra Jones, Nancy Johnstone and Penny Nickel -- decided to have cosmetic surgery together, and not because they look older. These ladies are a part of the growing number of women who want cosmetic surgery so they can feel a little better about themselves. Johnstone says, "I don't think any of us are looking for miracles." And Jones says, "I just want to look as young as I feel." Correspondent Bill Lagattuta interviews the women and has the before and after story of three friends facing the future.

On the non-surgical side of enhancement, Botox parties are all the rage, especially with younger people. Correspondent Erin Moriarty attends a Botox party with plastic surgeon Dr. Ramsay Alsarraf at the Newbury Center in Boston, Mass. The "party" consists of five people, men and women, most in their early 30s, who admit they are part of the trend of young people obsessed with the fear of growing old.

48 HOURS: "Perfect," is produced by Nancy Kramer, Mary Sue Holland and Marcie Spencer. The senior producer is Peter Schweitzer, the executive editor is Al Briganti and the executive producer is Susan Zirinsky.
