CBS SPORTS' DICK ENBERG TO RECEIVE HONORARY DOCTORATE AND DELIVER INDIANA UNIVERSITY 2002 COMMENCEMENT ADDRESS

CBS Sports' Dick Enberg will receive an honorary doctorate of humane letters and deliver the 2002 Commencement address to the graduating class of Indiana University on Saturday, May 4.

Enberg, who earned a master's degree in 1958 and a doctorate in 1962 from Indiana University, is recognized throughout the television broadcast industry as a legend. He has won a series of national honors and awards including 13 Emmy Awards, nine Sportscaster of the Year Awards, the Ronald Reagan Media Award and the Victor Award, as the top sportscaster of the past 25 years.

In 1957, Enberg became the first play-by-play voice of the Indiana University Sports Network. He began his full-time broadcasting career in 1965 in Los Angeles as the radio and television voice of the California Angels, UCLA basketball and the Los Angeles Rams. Enberg spent 25 years with NBC Sports (1975-2000), where he called play-by-play for events including NFL football, the Super Bowl, the Olympic Games, the World Series, Wimbledon, the French Open, the NCAA Men's Basketball Championship, the NBA Playoffs, the Rose Bowl, the Orange Bowl and heavyweight boxing championships.

Enberg joined CBS Sports in 2000 as play-by-play announcer for THE NFL ON CBS, college basketball, including the NCAA Tournament, the U.S. Open Tennis Championships, and as a contributor to the Masters? and PGA Championship broadcasts.

Among the other accolades Enberg has received during his career include the 1995 National Basketball Hall of Fame's Curt Gowdy Award and the 1999 Pro Football Hall of Fame's Pete Rozelle Award. In 1998 he became only the fourth sportscaster to be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and in 2000 Enberg was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Emmy Award. In 1999, Indiana University established the Dick Enberg Distance Learning Center in the School of Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
