TIGER WOODS HEADS "BUICK OPEN" FIELD ON CBS SPORTS ON JULY 31-AUGUST 1
CBS Sports to Broadcast "PGA Tour: Battle for Number One" on Saturday, July 31
Tiger Woods, 2002 Buick Open winner, aims for another title after coming close last year with a tie for second to 2003 U.S. Open champion Jim Furyk. Furyk, a nine-time PGA TOUR winner, defends his title this weekend at the BUICK OPEN in a standout field which includes Vijay Singh, Jose Maria Olazabal, John Daly, K.J. Choi, Jeff Maggert, Scott McCarron, Mark O'Meara, Scott Verplank, Kenny Perry, Tom Pernice, Jr., PGA Championship defending champion Shaun Micheel and Chris DeMarco, who in two of his last three Buick Opens has finished as runner-up.
CBS Sports will cover all the action from the Warwick Hills Golf and Country Club in Grand Blanc, Mich., broadcasting the third and final rounds on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, Aug. 1 (3:00-6:00 PM, ET, both days), live on the CBS Television Network.
Bill Macatee will anchor CBS Sports' coverage of the BUICK OPEN from the 18th hole tower this weekend along side lead golf analyst Lanny Wadkins. Peter Oosterhuis calls the action at the 17th hole, Gary McCord at the 16th hole and Bobby Clampett at the 15th hole. David Feherty and Peter Kostis serve as on-course reporters.
Lance Barrow is Coordinating Producer of CBS Sports' golf coverage. Steve Milton will direct. Tony Petitti is Executive Producer, CBS Sports.
In addition to coverage of the Buick Open, CBS Sports will broadcast "PGA TOUR: Battle for Number One" on Saturday, July 31 (2:00-3:00 PM, ET). Macatee hosts this special which looks at golf's prestigious top spot, the impact of holding that honor, and how this year it has become even more of a motivating goal for the world's best players. Since Tiger Woods separated himself from the field he has inspired Singh, Ernie Els and Mickelson to close the gap. In addition to spotlighting all the current top players in the world, "Battle for Number One" features an interview with David Duval with his new family and home in Colorado. Duval, the last player before Woods to hold the number one spot, is now ranked 448 but has returned to the game after an eight month hiatus. The program also includes interviews with Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tom Watson who were number one before the official rankings format. "PGA TOUR: Battle for Number One" is produced by PGA TOUR Productions in association with CBS Sports. Chris Svendsen served as CBS Sports' producer for the special.
