TIGER WOODS, PHIL MICKELSON AND VIJAY SINGH TEE OFF AT PGA TOUR'S WACHOVIA CHAMPIONSHIP ON CBS SPORTS ON MOTHER'S DAY WEEKEND, MAY 8-9
Tiger Woods is back at the PGA TOUR's WACHOVIA CHAMPIONSHIP after three weeks off since the Masters® along with Vijay Singh, winner of the last two TOUR events and Masters winner Phil Mickelson who came up one short at the Monday finish in New Orleans. CBS Sports broadcasts third- and final-round coverage of the Wachovia Championship, in only its second year as a PGA TOUR event, from Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C., on Mother's Day weekend, Saturday, May 8 and Sunday, May 9 (3:00-6:00 PM, ET; both days), live on the CBS Television Network.
Jim Nantz and Lanny Wadkins, CBS Sports' golf anchor and lead analyst, provide commentary from the 18th tower. Peter Oosterhuis calls the action at the 17th hole, Gary McCord at the 16th and Bobby Clampett at the 15th. David Feherty and Peter Kostis serve as on-course reporters.
The star-studded Wachovia field, with six of the top-10 world-ranked players, includes defending champion David Toms, Woods, Mickelson, Singh, Davis Love III, Mike Weir, Sergio Garcia, Jesper Parnevik, Brad Faxon, Nick Price, Mark O'Meara, Justin Leonard, Charles Howell III, Shigeki Maruyama, Stewart Cink, Stuart Appleby, Jay Haas, Curtis Strange and Chris DiMarco.
Lance Barrow is Coordinating Producer and Steve Milton is Director of CBS Sports' golf coverage. Tony Petitti is Executive Producer, CBS Sports.
CHIP SHOTS WITH CBS SPORTS LEAD ANALYST LANNY WADKINS: This is what everyone has been waiting for the last four or five years - serious threats to Tiger Woods from Vijay Singh and Phil Mickelson....You are going to see solid performances by Vijay and Phil - they are both swinging well. The question is whether Tiger will step up and assert himself as No. 1. I want to see if Tiger can come back ready to go and if there is any anxiety to his game....Quail Hollow is the perfect test of golf for the top players in the world because you must use your whole game. And so I expect to see these players at their best. ("May Birdiedays" for the CBS Sports golf team): Peter Oosterhuis celebrated his birthday on May 3; and Jim Nantz celebrates his birthday on May 17. CBS Sports golf director Steve Milton's birthday is next on the tee on May 20; and Gary McCord was born on May 23.
