“CBS THIS MORNING” HEADS TO A NEW, STATE-OF-THE-ART STUDIO IN TIMES SQUARE THIS FALL

CBS News’ Flagship Morning News Program, co-hosted by Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil, Will Broadcast Live from ViacomCBS’ World Headquarters

CBS THIS MORNING, CBS News’ flagship morning news program, will move to a state-of-the-art studio in the heart of Times Square this fall, it was announced today. Co-hosts Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil will broadcast live daily from a studio inside ViacomCBS’ world headquarters at 1515 Broadway in New York.

The new studio will dramatically enhance CBS THIS MORNING’s storytelling capabilities and provide new ways for the broadcast to showcase interviews, blend feeds from CBS News’ vast newsgathering arms and its affiliates, and deliver engaging content to viewers on television and through ViacomCBS’ streaming networks and social and digital platforms.

CBS THIS MORNING changed the broadcast morning news landscape when it launched, and we are continuing to reimagine the program and the way we produce content for today’s multiplatform audiences,” says Neeraj Khemlani, president and co-head of CBS News and Stations. “The new studio in the heart of Times Square will bring us a wealth of new opportunities for high-quality production, changing our look without changing our commitment to impactful news in the morning.”

With a more adaptive and modern space, CBS THIS MORNING will have the ability to showcase our world-class reporting and original storytelling in increasingly imaginative and inventive ways,” said Wendy McMahon, president and co-head of CBS News and Stations. “The studio was designed with a strong vision for the show that Shawna and our team want to produce—an environment where journalists, newsmakers and one-of-a-kind personalities come together to start their day with CBS NEWS.”

We are thrilled to have the versatility of a more technically advanced studio that has more space, more cameras and more looks,” says Shawna Thomas, executive producer of CBS THIS MORNING. “We want the show to look, sound and feel different than the competition and this starts to get us there. While bolstering our production capabilities is serious business, be on the lookout for elements of whimsy as well.

The new studio was designed by CBS News’ creative director Renee Cullen with support from Jack Morton Worldwide. Rick Jefferson, CBS News’ vice president of news operations, provided oversight of the project.

CBS THIS MORNING broadcast from 1515 Broadway last fall when CBS News reimagined Election Night and originated its coverage for the week from the ViacomCBS location (pictured above). CBS News is working to expand this facility, creating new interview areas, video screen experiences and an all-new graphics look.

Since 2012 when CBS THIS MORNING launched, the program has emanated from Studio 57 in the CBS Broadcast Center. In May 2019, Mason and Dokoupil joined King to create a dynamic anchor team. Shawna Thomas began as executive producer in February 2021.

Each day, CBS THIS MORNING provides two hours of original reporting, breaking news, and top-level newsmaker interviews in an engaging and informative format that challenges the norm in network morning news programs. The broadcast has earned a prestigious Peabody Award, a Polk Award, five News & Documentary Emmys, three Daytime Emmys, and the 2017 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast. The broadcast was also honored with an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award as part of CBS News division-wide coverage of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
