MARK X. LIMA NAMED CBS NEWS’ WEST COAST BUREAU CHIEF
Mark X. Lima, a proven newsroom leader and award-winning journalist, has been named CBS News’ West Coast Bureau Chief, where he will oversee the organization’s newsgathering in the western region for all broadcasts and platforms. Lima, who most recently served as the Vice President of News for Univision/Fusion, brings extensive experience in executive management, team building and innovation to this new role. Lima will begin August 24 and report to Kim Godwin, CBS News’ Executive Vice President of News.
“Mark is a gifted news executive who knows how to manage people and lead teams to create their best work,” said Godwin. “The depth and breadth of his experience in broadcast and digital journalism will be an immediate asset for CBS News in covering our ever-changing world.”
Lima joins CBS News from Univision/Fusion, where since 2013 he served as Vice President of News, overseeing news coverage and impact programming in English for Univision/Fusion. While at Univision/Fusion, he also served as the executive producer of the Edward R. Murrow Award-winning weekly Facebook Watch program “Real America with Jorge Ramos.” He also created a variety of programs and documentaries targeted toward millennial audiences.
In a career that spans two decades, Lima has been honored with some of the top awards in broadcast journalism including the Peabody Award and multiple Emmys. During his career, he has led coverage on some of the biggest stories of this era and has created and produced programs for broadcast television and multimedia digital platforms.
“Mark is an incredibly talented journalist, who has held a series of key leadership positions where he’s had an indelible impact on those newsrooms,” said Susan Zirinsky, President and Senior Executive Producer of CBS News. “We are proud to have him leading our team on the west coast.”
“I am thrilled by the opportunity to join CBS News and to return to Los Angeles to work with the talented journalists in the L.A. bureau,” Lima said.
Before Univision/Fusion, Lima was a senior producer for ABC News’ “Nightline,” where he was responsible for developing and producing stories, managing staff and directing digital and social media integration for the program. Lima was a consulting producer on the A&E Films documentary “Happy Valley” on the Jerry Sandusky scandal at Penn State University, which premiered at Sundance in 2014.
From 2004 to 2008, Lima served as ABC News’ deputy bureau chief in Los Angeles. Earlier, Lima was the director of sports and special projects at ABC NewsOne, the network’s affiliate newsgathering service. He is a graduate of Penn State University.
