CBS News will present an original hour-long audio special on the life and legacy of Rep. John Lewis, to be broadcast on the CBS Audio Network and on SiriusXM Radio beginning today. The special AMERICA CHANGED FOREVER: THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF JOHN LEWIS is anchored by veteran radio personality Gil Gross and features deep reporting and interviews from award-winning CBS News Radio correspondent Allison Keyes. AMERICA CHANGED FOREVER: THE LIFE AND LEGACY OF JOHN LEWIS can be heard today across the CBS Audio Network, which includes CBS News Radio. The special will also air on SiriusXM’s Urban View channel tomorrow, July 25 at 2:00 PM and Sunday, July 26 at 3:00 PM, ET. It will air on the SiriusXM’s POTUS channel tomorrow at 1:00 PM and Sunday at 6:00 PM, ET.
The special features unique reflections and interviews from the U.S. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.); Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes-Norton (D-DC); Smithsonian Secretary Lonnie G. Bunch III; Freedom Rider Joan Mulholland; former UN ambassador Andrew Young, Jr.; and journalist Roland Martin, along with rich archival sound and original reporting from CBS News on Lewis’ legacy that has inspired a new generation of activists.
The story is told in five parts and opens with Lewis’ early years as the son of sharecroppers in Troy, Alabama, and touches on how meeting Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks would shape one of the country’s most celebrated civil rights luminaries. The special expands on Lewis’ journey from Freedom Rider to becoming the youngest speaker at the March on Washington in 1963, plus his role in the march from Selma to Montgomery, the poignant events on Bloody Sunday, and what propelled Lewis to head to Washington.
