Lorna Jones has been promoted to deputy Washington bureau chief for CBS News, it was announced today by Susan Zirinsky, CBS News president and senior executive producer. Jones, who is currently the managing editor of the CBS News Washington Bureau, will assume her new role on July 6.

I am very pleased for Lorna Jones to become deputy bureau chief in Washington at this critical time,” said Zirinsky. “Lorna is passionate about getting to the heart of the story and will help us mobilize our D.C. operation so that we are ahead of the news – as she has with our coronavirus coverage over the last several months.”

I am honored to be part of the team of journalists at the CBS News Washington Bureau, who bring insightful and comprehensive reporting on the most pressing stories that impact our world,” said Jones. “With the tremendous pace of news, this is a pivotal time for all of us in the Washington Bureau. I look forward to helping support the next chapter for CBS News.”
