48 HOURS: “The Case Against Sandra Garner” was Saturday’s #1 primetime program, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Saturday, March 7. The broadcast delivered 3.47 million viewers and a 0.6/03 with adults 25-54, the demographic that matters most to those who advertise in news.
Saturday’s broadcast featured Richard Schlesinger and 48 HOURS’ investigation into the murder of Jon Garner and the case against his wife, Sandra. The broadcast gave viewers a rare look inside a murder case where virtually everything, from the first moments of the investigation through the verdict, are captured on camera.
On Jan. 2, 2018, Sandra Garner called 911 and said her husband had been shot by a masked intruder. When police arrived, they tried to save Jon Garner, who had been mortally wounded. Police checked the Maypearl, Texas home for the gunman but didn’t find anyone. Sandra Garner, with every moment captured on police body cameras, told them what she says she remembered. Police were later shocked to learn that in the days before the murder, someone searched for “how can I kill someone as they sleep” on Sandra Garner’s iPad, which made her more of a suspect for the investigators. Investigators, after searching the couple’s home and vehicles several times, found a rusty gun under the front seat of Sandra Garner’s Mustang. Ballistics tests showed it was the murder weapon.
Sandra Garner was then arrested and charged with murder. But did she do it?
