MIKE NELSON PROMOTED TO SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, COMMUNICATIONS, CBS TELEVISION STATIONS


NEW YORK and LOS ANGELES – Nov. 2, 2016 – Mike Nelson has been promoted to Senior Vice President, Communications, CBS Television Stations. The news was announced today by Peter Dunn, president of the station group, and Dana McClintock, Executive Vice President, Communications, CBS Corporation.
Nelson, who has served as Vice President of Communications, CBS Television Stations, since November 2006, will continue to be the lead spokesperson for the group’s 29 stations which are located in major markets across the country. In addition, he oversees the stations’ media relations and internal communications functions and provides support to other business units and corporate functions across CBS Corporation.
Nelson maintains a presence at both the station group’s headquarters in New York and in Los Angeles, where he has overseen the communications department at KCBS and KCAL-TV since joining CBS in July 2002. In addition to reporting to Dunn and McClintock, Nelson reports to Steve Mauldin, the president and general manager of KCBS and KCAL.

Prior to joining CBS, Nelson spent six years with NBC in Burbank, Calif., where he was responsible for directing corporate and employee communications initiatives for the company’s west coast businesses, including the NBC Entertainment division.
Before that, he spent 13 years in the National Basketball Association with the Milwaukee Bucks (1983-1987) and the Golden State Warriors (1988-1996). During his time in the league, Nelson helped to represent five future members of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and four of the 10 winningest coaches in NBA history. In addition, he was responsible for creating the “Run TMC” campaign that promoted Warriors teammates Tim Hardaway, Mitch Richmond and Chris Mullin as one of the highest-scoring trios in league history.
