CNET ANNOUNCES "BEST OF CES" 2010 AWARD WINNERS AT THE 2010 INTERNATIONAL CES (R)

CNET Editors Honor the Panasonic VT25 TV with the "Best in Show" and Intel Wireless Display with the "People's Voice" Awards

SAN FRANCISCO - January 11, 2010  - CNET.com (http://www.cnet.com/), where people go to discover the latest in tech and consumer electronics, today announced the winners of its fifth annual "Best of CES" Awards on the CNET Live Stage at the 2010 International CES in Las Vegas.

The CNET editors, who reviewed hundreds of entries, awarded Panasonic VT25 TV (http://ces.cnet.com/8301-31045_1-10427983-269.html) with the "Best in Show," while thousands of CNET users also selected Intel Wireless Display (http://ces.cnet.com/8301-31045_1-10424576-269.html) for the People's Voice Award.  Nine companies were recognized as having the best products in their respective categories (see full list below).

Tech enthusiasts visited CNET.com to follow the extensive CES coverage provided by the site's expert editors, who scoured the CES show floor to choose from the hundreds of new products and technologies announced at the show.  The CNET.com "People's Voice" award, which used an online voting system drew hundreds of votes from consumers who wanted to see recognition for their favorite product at CES.

"This year, 3D technology was the talk of the show.  Our editors were impressed with hundreds of products they saw on the show floor, but in the end selected the Panasonic VT25 TV as Best in Show," said Scott Ard, Editor-in-Chief.  "Although it has many detractors, the same arguments against 3D technology - cost, lack of content, cumbersome technology and standards issues - are similar to those that clouded the emergence of color TV and HDTV.  We may not see a 3D TV in homes this year or next, but it will be some day in the future."

To qualify, all products had to be exhibited at the 2010 CES in Las Vegas.  CNET's expert editors judged products on criteria including:

  • Pioneer a new category, establish an emerging category, or take an existing category to a new level.
  • Excite people with its style, innovation, usefulness, ease of use, and/or capability to entertain.
  • Endow its owners with a certain cachet, the "cool" factor.
  • Make its way into everyday life.

Awards were given in nine categories, including digital photo and video; car tech and GPS; cell phones and smartphones; computers and hardware; gaming; home theater; MP3 and video players; televisions; and a new "green tech" category which recognizes earth-friendly consumer electronics and technology.
