LAST.FM PARTNERS WITH MOZILLA LABS TO AWARD BEST MUSIC EXTENSION CATEGORY FOR "EXTEND FIREFOX 3" CONTEST

Social Music Network Honours Online Music Innovation, Winning Developer Will Win Trip To London And VIP Tickets To Last.fm Live Event

Last.fm announced today that it is sponsoring a new music category in Mozilla's Extend Firefox 3 contest. As part of the contest, which encourages Web developers to create innovative extensions or add-ons for the forthcoming major update to the Firefox Web browser, Last.fm will be judging entries and will award the best music-related extension entry.

The winner will be flown to the Last.fm office in London to meet the team behind the world's fastest-growing free music Web site; will attend a Last.fm/Presents live event as a guest of Last.fm; and will also receive a Logitech Squeezebox network music player.

Toby Padilla, Last.fm VP Desktop & Client Software and contest judge, said: "Last.fm is very excited to be part of the Extend Firefox 3 contest. Mozilla has been at the forefront of the open source movement, and helps drive web innovation, both of which Last.fm is very passionate about. There's been a lot of great music extensions developed for Firefox and we are really looking forward to see what this year's contestants develop."

"We're thrilled that Last.fm has joined us in promoting the development of next generation music extensions," said Chris Beard, VP and General Manager of Mozilla Labs. "Music lovers around the world have fallen in love with Last.fm and the developer community is no exception."

Last.fm is one of the major resources developers have at their disposal when building music applications and add-ons. The site offers a wealth of music-related assets - music streams, listening charts, artist information - and an established free and open API and webservice framework to build from.

Last.fm recently launched a showcase of the growing number of apps being built using the site's free tools, at http://build.last.fm. The site also recently announced that activity around these third-party applications on other Web sites added 19 million music fans to its user base in January, in addition to the 21 million active users engaging with the Last.fm site itself.
