BARBARA FEDIDA IS NAMED VICE PRESIDENT, TALENT AND DEVELOPMENT, CBS NEWS

Barbara Fedida, has been named Vice President, Talent and Development, CBS News, it was announced today by Sean McManus, President, CBS News and Sports.  The appointment is effective immediately.  She will continue to oversee the recruitment and development of on-air and behind-the-camera personnel for CBS News and will now oversee those functions for CBS NEWSPATH.  Fedida will also oversee CBS News' business affairs department and will continue to be very involved in helping oversee the Division's commitment to diversity.

 

Fedida had been Executive Director, Talent, CBS News, since August 2006, when she joined CBS News.

 

"Barbara has become a key member of my senior management team at CBS News.  She has a tremendous ability to not only recognize talent, but to develop and nurture our on-air and production personnel, as well," said McManus.  "She has also become a trusted advisor on many aspects of CBS News.  I'm pleased to acknowledge her contributions with this promotion."

 

Before that, Fedida was Director of talent recruitment and development at ABC News (2006).  She was the Director of Standards and Practices at ABC News (2001-05), where she helped reevaluate and reorganize the news division's decision desk after the 2000 election.  In addition, she was one of a handful of producers who worked on the Peter Jennings tribute special, "Peter Jennings: Reporter" in August 2005.  Fedida also developed and directed the ABC News in the Schools Program and served as a senior producer of the children's special, "9/11: Answering Children's Questions" (2001).

 

She received a 2002 Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for her work on ABC News' 9/11 coverage and the children's special.

 

Fedida was a senior producer of "ABC 2000," the millennium broadcast that spanned 26 consecutive hours and won Peabody and Emmy Awards.  Before that, she served as an associate producer and producer for "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings" (1996-2000), where she produced "Person of the Week" and covered many major news stories with Jennings.  Fedida helped develop and launch "Day One" (1992-96), where she worked as a senior production associate, story editor, associate producer and producer.  Fedida began her career at ABC News as a production associate for "Peter Jennings Reporting" (1989-92), the anchor's award-winning documentary unit.  She also helped develop and produce town meetings and children's specials for Jennings.   

 

Before joining ABC News, she was a broadcast assistant for the CBS News broadcast, "West 57th" (1988-89).  

 

Fedida was born in Queens, N.Y.   She was graduated from New York University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Politics.  Fedida has been an adjunct professor of journalism at the university.  She and her husband live in New York City with their three children.
